ZIPLOC OMELET

This works great! The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet!
Have everyone write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.
Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.
Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.
Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.

Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.
Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and a great conversation piece.

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready. And in 13 minutes, you got a nice omlette for a quick breakfast!!!

This also works well for you campers!

red, this is a great idea -thanks!

oldtown and I canoe and camp as often as we can get away from work. We're always looking for a new recipe and an easier way to cook in the out of doors. This is perfect for a side-of-the-river breakfast.

I'm thinking of one with a lot of pico in it.

This is perfect. Thanks again.

Bella, use brand new bags:D

I use Ziplock brand and nothing less. If the bags are coming in the box with holes in the bottom, then it sounds like a manufacturer's problem.

Not really. I got it via an e-mail from a friend down in Houston. Old Soldier probably got it off the same site that my friend did which was not mentioned in the e-mail I got.

Had the grandkids overnite this weekend,in the morning I told them we were gonna try a recepie I got off the fishing forum,I had already cooked up some pork sauage and bacon had the kids get their ziplock bag with their names on them,I had small bowls with shredded cheese ,onions & mushrooms put those on the counter and they marched along filling the ingredients they liked after I cracked two eggs in their bags, let the air out of the bags, mixed them up,sealed them , dropped them in boiling water, set the timer and watched cartoons! When the buzzer sounded,I poured their indiviual omelets on a plate.Instant happy campers, they talked about it all day,the high lite of the morning!!Thanks Redfin!

I wish I woulda had this recipe years ago. Great for camping and also for lazy man(myself)who doesnt want to clean a pan. Make sure you dont miss taking the air out of the bag though, it is very hard to get it under the water if you dont. Wife said it was pretty funny to watch. LOL

Made my first one this morning. Bacon, Chesse, Onions, Chorizo, Black pepper. Not as many goodies as I would have liked but the fridge is running a little low. Came out great. Thanks Red. This made breakfast much quicker in the mornin, which means more sleepy time.

Sorry guys for the late report but this made the bst omelet I have ever had. I had a ton of stuff in mine and the big bag needed about 3-04 minutes more cooking time. I just added a minute in the nuker and it was just right!!!
The eggs flavor was so much better having not been burned on the edges like when you cook the the OF way.
I had ham, bacon, mushrooms, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, hotsauce, diced tomato and grated cheese in mine.
Fantastic!!!

Yeah, I am glad I found this recipe. My kids absolutely loved them. As a matter of fact, they both started school this week and I told them if they were both good in school all week, we would make them again. All they talk about is what they are going to put in "their" omelettes!!!
Although my youngest daughter wants to put pickled okra in hers!! lol But I guess that is what makes them fun for the kids!!

I passed that idea on to a lot of friends, they all loved it. Especially campers. I got this idea dack in return for Deviled Eggs. Great for football games and parties.

Easy Deviled Eggs

Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all
broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up
mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg.

Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Redfin, why "not more than two" eggs? What if we're hungry? Not trying to be a smart-azz, just curious as to why not 3? Will the bag break or something?

This is, the baked potato, and the campfire stuff in the foil are AWESOME idears...

Okay, well I must be the only disfunctional one on here or I'm the only who will admit this did not work! lol I tried it this morning with a ziplock sandwhich bag and the bag pretty much melted. Did I use the wrong bag? I was so hungry for an omlette too....I ended up using the frying pan. lol

Not sure what went wrong. Was it a freezer bag? I've done it and it works like a charm.

No, its awesome. I've been doing these for a little over a year now and I love them anyway I do them. I've experimented with many combinations and have not found one I dont like. Yes it needs to be a freezer bag or it will melt and fall apart.

We used to do this while camping in North Carolina, great camping food. My wife learned it from the girl scouts years ago.

And yes, it has to be a freezer bag.

Anyone tried the turtle shells???

This came off of a website someone posted the link to:

WARNING From Mr Breakfast:
As of August 2006, the ZIPLOC company does NOT recommend using their bags to boil food. ZIPLOC brand Bags are made from polyethylene plastic with a softening point of approximately 195 degrees Fahrenheit. When exposed to boiling water, the plastic could begin to melt

Meaning what? The bag could melt, but not cause a hole, resorting in micro parts of the bag to be consumed? yikes?@!?!?
