don't be surprised if he demonstrates poor sportsmanship.
I was fishing our club tournament on Palestine Saturday morning. I was sitting on the submerged bridge in Highsaw when a guy in a 21 foot white Legend with gray and green trim...with a Power Pole on back...came running in, apparently from blastoff at the Villages.
He got on his trolling motor behind me, then started moving in closer and closer. He was casting about six feet off the front of my boat, but still I didn't say anything. Finally, when he got within 25 feet of me, I asked...
"Do you want to just get in the boat with me?"
He said, "No, but I wouldn't mind fishing under it."
He backed off a few feet, then in a little while here he came again. Keep in mind I was sitting on the south end of the bridge. He could have gone to the north end and we would have been fine, but he obviously wanted to fish where I was.
Just as it was on the tip of my tongue to tell him I wasn't past going to his weigh-in and telling the tournament director what a poor sport he was, he pulled up his trolling motor and took off.
I don't know how many times I've shown up at my planned starting spot to find someone sitting there. When that happens to me I realize it is part of fishing and move on, or at least I don't crowd the guy if I do decide to fish the area anyway. Apparently the guy in the Legend doesn't let someone sitting there get in his way.
BTW, he was fishing with a portly guy wearing a trenchcoat and a scarf in the back of the boat.

Actually, he did sort of look like that. But to give him credit, he didn't say anything. In fact he looked kind of embarrassed. Or maybe that's just how he looks when he's cold.

how do you know he was fishing the weekender series? Just an educated guess, I suppose. He came running into Highwaw/Ledbetter from the north shortly after daylight, at the same time a bunch more boats were running down the lake from that direction. The only open ramp north of Highsaw/Ledgetter is the Villages, and I know the Weekend Series was taking off from the Villages that morning.

I forgot to mention...while the guy in the Legend was still there, another pair of guys that I think were theirs...in a Skeeter...idled by me so close that I could have jumped from my front deck into their boat. And I can't jump all that far any more.
Why they didn't go on the other side of Legend guy I don't know...there was only 50 yards of open water to get around him and under the bridge going that way.
I just looked at them and shook my head as they went by.

is this really deserved of a post though? I thought so or I wouldn't have posted it. Maybe if enough guys figure out what inconsiderate jerks they appear to be when they do this kind of stuff some of them will quit doing it. Or not. Maybe the guy who did it or someone who knows him will read it. I'm guessing someone on this forum knows who I am talking about.

Your not runnin a 21 foot white Legend with gray and green trim are ya? is this really deserved of a post though? No he doesn't. Most of the time his boat is being towed by another boat or his trolling motor. And he's right. This stuff happens all the time. Nobody owns spots. If you want to keep people out, put a high fence up around 'your spot'. If it was so offensive, why not take a picture of the rig with his TX numbers, and report him to the TD if he was in fact in the BWS derby? Or even post it up here? I swear the internet turns men in to blue haired ladies over trivial stuff like this. Comical.

is this really deserved of a post though? I think it is. I think it is good to let people know what is going on. I also think something needs to be said on the water to let the other person know they are interfering with your fishing and if they are in a tournament, also let the TD know. Most of the lakes are getting crowded now but everyone still should still show courtesy and respect to the other people fishing. Give them some room. It is never acceptable to just move in on top of them.

I've had the reverse experience in tournaments...weekenders dropping off plane and starting to fish a cast in front of me. Even had a catfish dude come around 40ft down the bank, stop, anchor up and toss a scoop of food out while I was fishing a tournament. It's not the tournament or weekender that does it. It's the lack of caring about anyone but themselves at that moment. Fishing can be an addiction and like any addiction common courtesy can get left on the bank.

I'm with ya Razorback.. We should all more more considerate of others. Eventually, the person will move out and you can move into the spot. True, no spot on any lake is owned but it is in tournament rules to stay a specified distance from another boat. Just be courteous! However, I do agree... I would have casted a big a$$ crankbait into his boat!!! I'm sure I would have caught something!! +1

This is a forum and any topic can be posted up in this section if it pertains to bass fishing! This is a great post to notify all the inconsiderate, unsportsman like anglers who think they own the water, dont own the waters they fish, LMAO!! If it were me in the situation I would have had some choice words for the guy to let him know what I think about his tactics. Maybe this post will give the unsportsman like anglers who read this a clue to what they are doing and change there ways. But then again they might not.

I really can't Believe Someone would even say that this should be ignored because " it happens all the time".
Nobody may OWN a spot on the water, but if they are there first then you don't pull in on them PERIOD. If you do, you are a Low life punk that should have been taught some manners when you were growing up.
I think this is very deserving of a post and encourage everyone to call out these idiots that have no respect everytime it happens.

I had a similar situation happen this weekend. It amazes me how ill mannered some bass fishermen are these days. It felt great to pull the second place sack out of my livewell right in front of him though. A good tongue lashing won't get you to far with these kinda people..It's just in them to be rude.

Reporting back to the TD is CS in my opinion...its kinda like tattle telling aint it? Handle it on the water, which he did by saying something to the guy and let all all your buddies know and other folks as well that may be fishing with the dude so word gets out to the guy. He may stop...he may not. If he don't, justice will be served cuz he'll keep doing it to other folks and eventually get run off anyways more than likely the ole fashioned way. I'm just not gonna pull out my phone and snap a pic of the guy and go tell his momma. If I was there first I'm gonna fish my spot and I'm not gonna leave til I'm ready to. A forum is here to spread information I thought.... which is what he was doing.
Kinda like the fat guy at Falcon being rude to everyone.... I didn't know about the guy but I appreciate everyone saying something about it on here for the next time I go down there. If I do..

No one is saying they own the water but if someone is fishing a particular area, leave them be. Come back later or ask to join them. What's so hard about that? I can almost guarantee the guys that have a problem with men who speak up about these issues are the main violators of this UNWRITTEN RULE. They probably couldn't find nevertheless catch a fish if their life depended on it. Just saying.....

there was a spot on the pines this weekend where there were 4 boats fishing there at one time. the spot is really only big enough for one boat, but people will crowd in there like that is the only place on the lake to fish. I think if there is a boat fishing a small area you need to respect them and go find another spot to fish. the problem is we have too many idiots fishing who cant find their own fish and have to crowd community holes. these wannabee bass fishermen need to spend some time on the water finding their own spots, and show some respect to other anglers. it used to be first one there got the hole. now its come one come all. Its an embarasment to the sport. And for those of you that dont think this needs to be addressed your probably the idiots doing it.Learn to fish, and stay out of other boats livewells.

I have seen more than once local jackpoters have brothers, cousins or friends set on their holes at 5am and hold their spots.

LilLouie- Don't think it would be on his dime. The first problem would be proving it. His word against yours. Second your not gonna keep him there until police show up that's false imprisonment. I've done this twice had a ski boat that just insisted to keep circling me i hit the side with a 1oz weight guy stopped got all pissy told him it was an accident said he was gonna call police. I told him call the gw that way he could get a ticket for endangering me. Not saying what i did was right but he stopped and hopefully he had a learning experience. Same with a jet ski works everytime. Think your boat would look sweet on your own dime if this happened to you.

Yeah, the proof is the part that get's ya. Just because I said I will do it, Doesn't prove I did and it sure doesn't prove what happened to your glass.
I don't want you to take me wrong, I am not some bully on the lake, but I do stand my ground. I won't move in on anyone period and I am not likely to let them push me off a spot.
Now if you ask, I will probably not have a big issue and more than likely let you in but don't push, because I will push back

Admitting it was an accident is admitting fault. Nobody ever said the Police being able to do anything about it. Thats what insurance companies are for and civil court as well. Either way your responsible for the damamge to the other guys boat. yea my boat would look sweet but it wouldn't be on my dime. Either way, I dont crowd folks so I doubt this would ever happen to me. I'm just saying I don't think it happens as much as some folks on here act like it does. Maybe I'm wrong...pretty dang childish IMO but I'll be danged if I would allow anyone to throw something at my boat and just get away with it...

I hear ya Shawn... Just friendly conversation here bud. I just hear folks say they are gonna throw things at other people all the time. I don't move outta the way either... but I'm not gonna throw anything at someone's boat. I'm just not a good liar when it comes to lying to the Police or anyone for that matter.

i hate to say lil louie but in no way could you get the guy to pay for your boat, but as you said you dont crowd people so this will never happen to you. i never have to worry about it cause no one likes my spots they dont have fish on them.

The guy MAY have violated a tournament rule and probably did violate the unspoken rule of good sportsmanship on the water, but as far as I know, he did nothing illegal. Anything you do to get back at him will be looked at as you being the instigator. Sometimes you just have to pick your fights and I am not sure if this one is worth it.
I mean, if everyone solved their problems on the water, what are we going to read every Monday morning on the TFF Bass Fishing forum?

Ok so your insurance calls me i say don't know anything about it. Then we go to small claims court i say i don't know anything about it. You have no proof so nothing happens you wasted your time and your boat still has a ding. Just saying if people didn't act rude they wouldn't get rude treatment. I'm not pointing this at anyone like you said you don't do this so you don't have to worry about it just like i don't do this so i don't worry about it. People that do do this have to worry about it when they pull up on someone. If they would just ask they would get a whole lot better response.

If my lying taught you a valuable lesson then i'll take one for the team. Look at it this way had a friend years ago drive over some lines at cali here in San Antonio The guy shot him with a 357 mag almost died. So be grateful it's only a 1oz weight

Sorry to hear this
I was fishing the brides in Ledbetter 90% of the day Saturday and didn't see the confrontation
It was a very busy place since it was sort of out of the wind There were 2-4 boats on each bridge most of the day
It was early...first thing in the morning. I know the bridges are community holes, but there were only two of us there at that time. He could have easily moved toward the other end of it and we would have been fine, but he obviously wanted to fish exactly where I was sitting. He even said so. It wasn't much of a confrontation. I just wanted to let him know I'm not stupid or naive and I knew what he was doing was BS. I also hope someone new to the sport who reads this kind of stuff will learn that it's not cool to crowd a fellow angler before he even starts doing it. The lake is something like 25,000 acres. If there's someone sitting on a spot you want to fish when you get there, show some courtesy and respect. The other guy got up in the middle of the night and paid his money to go to the lake and fish in the wind and cold, too.

The bigger question here is, "Did you catch any fish on the submerged road?" No. I got good bite on a C-rig but I missed him. Not even a slap at it on a crankbait. It was kind of the story of my day.

So I am reading that lying to an insurance company (would that be insurance fraud?) and lying under oath (that IS purgery) and destruction of anothers property while coming close to injuring them is OK but crowding your spot on a public lake is not???? In my opinion the guy in the Legend was wrong and is a jerk and Razorback handled it better than most would. Jason

how do you know he was fishing the weekender series? Just an educated guess, I suppose. He came running into Highwaw/Ledbetter from the north shortly after daylight, at the same time a bunch more boats were running down the lake from that direction. The only open ramp north of Highsaw/Ledgetter is the Villages, and I know the Weekend Series was taking off from the Villages that morning. there were lots of boats launched there sat that were not in the series, im not taking his side, im just saying maybe he was not in the weekender tourny, I know most of the guys in it and they are decent guys, who dont encroach like that, I could be wrong but if your not sure, id think you would have just said a guy in a legend not one of the weekenders series guys. Just saying you know
