had one and got rid of it, my puter loves me for it.
I kept getting crashes and lockups when on fb, none since I got rid of it. also be aware they will sell your info to the ad people who in turn will spam anyone you friend and it will only get worse when they do the ipo

They can only get the info you put on it. It is graet for keeping up with the grand kids. I think the problem is people just take it too seriously. It should be fun.

I have one. I limit my friends list to the people I trust. For our family FB is a good tool to organize events. Every year most of the men in our family take off on a guys only weekend. We create an event(usually 8-10 months in advance), post it and see who is in. Go from there, make cabin reservations, boat reservations, etc.
Last September we went to Mena Arkansas four wheeling, great trip.

Every bit of information about us is for sale, the only thing that we can do is limit the amount of information we are willing to give out. In the digital world, if someone really wants your info-they will get it. It is what it is. I used a cc on a trip to Central America, when we got home said cc had been used to buy stuff at a Wal-Mart in Houston. I haven't been to Houston in years. Thankfully our cc company caught it.

I'm very grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with my classmates and distant relatives. I'm suprised how often I check facebook, but I do it because I want to, not because I feel I have to.

You have the option to filter facebook and friend who you want to friend, it's an experience you choose and you choose to manage.

I have one, and I am an attention whore.

Also good for testing out OT material before hitting the TFF.

Yep I have one, I started using it to keep tabs on the son... but like others, I have reconnected with several friends from High School and in the Military.

Got one. Keep in touch with quite a few friends on it, and have to stay on the page for work most of the day.

I have one for friends and one for family. It's great to keep up with my friends from school and my nieces, nephews and cousins. With my uncle being in the hospital and not wanting to talk (it wears him down), it's been great to keep everyone up to date on how he's doing. I don't have any information on there that the people on my pages don't already know and I keep it locked down on who can view what.

I appreciate the responses guys! I can see where FB would be great for keeping up with relatives. I am kind of a social outcast and not so sure I want to re-connect with all the people I went to school with.

And it seems that most of my graduating class are "friending" each other on FB. I did receive an email from an old classmate who wanted to know "why aren't you on FB? People want to re-connect with you."

If you group your friends, it is a very easy way to tune out people, and only keep up with what you are interested in.

I do not install apps or play the games.

As far as viruses. I can agree with that. But a good anti virus and malware blocker, as well as not clicking strange links will take care of a lot of that.

It seems that many Facebook users routinely post lots of personal information, including full names, addresses and so forth, and then give realtime updates when they leave on an extended vacation so the bad guys know the home is unguarded ... maybe the problem isn't the format of social networking sites and has more to do with the poor judgment of the users?

One major problem with using social networking sites is that employers (and government!) monitor them and will use what you post in making hiring and firing decisions. When a person gets turned down for a job because of those college spring break photos from four years ago ... well, it ain't fun. Once posted, some of that material never completely goes away.

All of my family that I want to "connect" with live within a hour of us.

but, yeppers, I have an account, and actually check it religiously at least 3 times a year! or, when someone calls on the telephone (remember those days?) to tell me, "Hey, check out my Facebook post, its funny!" sheesh...why don't you tell me when we are on the phone?

Ha! I would get rid of it if I could. But I am an IT guy so I get directives from the boss (wifey) to stay in touch, an e-mail to send all bulloney mail to and one for real people. The bulloney e-mail is for facebook so my wife can see our kid's pictures, etc. I would like to delete it but it does serve one purpose. Business' have to have a web site these days, sometimes leads to social networking sites too.

What a pain. wink

How many friends do you have on facebook? How many real friends do you have? I would just stay in touch with the real friends.
