So I was planning on going to a local pond tonight and was wondering what tips, rigs, baits, etc. Would make my trip more successful? The tpwd website says there are only channels in the pond but people have caughten several other species of fish as well. Any tips for catfishing at night,?

Make sure it's allowed to be there at night. Fish shallow and close to cover. Take a lantern.

I would get a Light Bobber and fish shallow 2-3 foot. Hot Dogs make awesome pond bait....

Stew meat! And lots of layers of clothing! Man, it's gonna be cold tonight. My wife says I'm insane to wanna go out to the lake tonight, but when have I EVER fished in nice weather?!

so can I put some garlic on em? I don't think it is necessary. For pond fishing I like hotdogs on treble hooks, and shrimp on single hooks. I use the shrimp from the seafood counter at the grocery store.

I use chicken live or beef liver. On a 3 way or a slip weight with a float Above the weight. I will also use a kale hook or a circle.

Not sure on the exact size but #6 sounds about right. I like the largest size that can still be covered by the hotdog.

Good luck catching any channels in this cold. I know it's possible, but probably won't get a lot of action. I caught one last weekend on Twok, so I know they'll bite, but you pretty much gotta put the bait right on his head. Which pond are you fishing in Prosper? I'm from that area and just curious.

either way will work but I like to keep the barbs covered. hotdogs are very soft so you dont really have to worry about the hook getting stuck into the bait.

A great technique for fishing WORMS at night.....(or anytime).... Cast out with a loaded hook of red wigglers with the minimum of WEIGHT for the water you are fishing. Let it settle. About every 15 or 20 seconds or so...turn the reel handle S-L-O-W-L-Y one or two cranks. Repeat the process. This has produced greatly for me when other catters nearby are catching nothing with their stationary lines.

Ill more than likely be at Frontier park. But if not ive got some neighborhood ponds ill go to

In a 1960s catfish (Channels/Blues/Yellows, maybe Bullheads too ,in general) book, Worms were Numero Uno (1st). I forget what was 2nd. 3rd was human saliva. So maybe there was something to the old timers spitting on their bait for Good Luck.
