Any news on Somerville? According to TPWD it's still down 8' or so even after all the rain. Kind of weird seeing those great white bass humps as islands. Gettin' the itch and just wondering if anybody's been out there.

Somerville is now just over 6 feet low..still rising slightly..much improved from over 13 feet down....as long as the rain keep coming it should be good by spring....the ground is saturated so ...lots of runoff....

I think the lowest point was just over ten feet below pool level of 238. But 13 feet low might be a reality if this drought continues. Look at the starting point for 2011 and you will see that it's minus about 4 foot of water now heading into 2012 and it will get hot again. Evaporation rate for this area is about 40 inches a year but a extra hot summer brings that number up. This doesn't even take into account the water Brenham pulls from the lake which is considerable. Another hot and dry summer will spell disaster for the whole region so keep praying for relief..

So any other ideas for whites right now? I usually make a trip to Bend on the Colorado and then just stay close to home on Somerville. I've got the itch bad!!

Same here in our area of south Texas.

We've been getting some welcome rains, and some have been fairly heavy in the 2" to 3" range and on and off with a few weeks in between.

It's been enough to green up everything and get some moisture into the ground but that's the problem as it all pretty much soaks in, and it's just not enough to get the creeks flowing enough to fill the lakes and rivers.

We are in better shape this year at this time than last as far as rainfall, but should it stop we'll be right back to where we were last summer in a very short period of time.

OK. So we have had 2.31 inches of rain since yesterday afternoon. 1.45 inches fell this morning around 4am. Should bring the lake level up quite a bit. I would imaging the creeks will be running strong and should connect to the lake. See this from the weather service this morning:

Flood Warning for
the middle yegua creek near Dime Box.
* From this afternoon to late Tuesday night... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 0615 am Saturday the stage was 6.6 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and continue to rise
to near 11.6 feet by tomorrow evening. The river will fall below flood stage
by Tuesday early afternoon.
* At 10.0 feet... FM 141 below the confluence with west yegua creek is threatened
and backwater flooding up west yegua and Turkey creeks in Lee County is
likely.
