I remember years ago on a Tidecraft,i attached the transducer to the transom by scotch brighting the gelcoat, 80 gritting the bracket; and then applying with a thin coat of GE 100 % silicone.
After it dried, i applied a thicker coat over the top and then attached the puck. Lasted for years,..........was i nuts ?
Would you do that now on the side imaging pucks ? ? I`m getting reading to do one,but want to do it on the bottom side of a Ranger step, behind the pad.
Can Anyone share the pro way to do it ? ......maybe some pics,.....maybe what Hummingbird has told you etc., .......thanks ! !

If you have a jack plate it would be better to mount it there. I do not have a jack plate so I mounted mine underneath with the transducer shield saver.(I have a Ranger also) I called and talked with them before ordering. btw, I have the Lowrance. http://www.transducershieldandsaver.com/home/Also, visit www.bbcboards.net They have a ton of helpful unformation on that site.

That method is still practiced today, and we have even seen 2x4's tarred and nailed with 4 16# nails and I am sure it worked. Professional? Highly doubtful! Well the MSRP for a Compact SI transducer is $185 and the HDSI is $270. The Side Imaging transducers are larger and have more water resistance.
The bottom of the step gets a lot of water flow across it until the hull lifts.
It will only cost you the price of a transducer to find out if silicone is a suitable attachement method. "Ain't no way I would do it"
Some Ranger owners use the XPTH 9 HDSI 180T thru-hull transducer in the setback.

Wayne, can i get the same quality signal thru the hull as one outside ?
Would you mount in floor of the step or floor of the pad.
Are you a rep / dealer ? Thanks

Side Imaging does not work well shooting thru fiberglass since it shoots sideways it need to be mounted externally. The best place on Ranger is on JackPlate or transom or under the step. Any of these options will not produce readings on plane so if you want onplane 2D readings will need to add the XP 9 20 and the AS SI DB Y Cable to get 2D readings on plane.
