Sure I have one from today and yesterday. Don't go until it's freaking 80 degrees. Never fished so much offshore water in my life without a bite. Only caught one up shallow and it was as white as a sheet of paper. I almost never get shunked there but it was real real real close this time. Cold, windy, just down right miserable!

Thanks for the report. I was going to fish choke Tuesday but I think I will try Coleto Creek now.

There is a thread going on the bass fishing page and a fella there caught them pretty good at Choke fishing big spinners ssllloooowwwwww. I guess he knows alot more than me because I fished a lizard, jig and crank pretty dang slow and still didn't catch them.

you fished it pretty dang slow, but did you fish it ssllloooowwwwww? Fished at a snails pace but not as slow as a dog with no legs. I think he just knew what he was doing and where to do it at. I on the other hand just suck, Canyon & Choke have proved that well so far this year.

Grout - you seeing much grass in any parts of the lake? I fished Opossum, Calliham and Mason a couple weeks back and saw very, very little. Wondering about the lower end of the lake though.

Youre right Jimbo, but I know there has to be some. I found some decent patches in Calliham, so that alone tells me there should be more in the lower lake where its typically more proficient.

Cracker, didn't fish south shore this time but a few weeks ago there was a pretty good amount there. It actually suprised me how much I was snagging. I mostly fished 3 fingers & telephone pole point this time (almost never fish it) because the wind sucked and there was ZERO grass there. Also fished what I believe is called catfish cove in the Opossum (caught a few there last time)and zero nibbles there, zero grass too. Fished the road bed in Huisache and had one take my jig but between the wind and me jerking off I didn't get a good hook in it. No grass there either. Fished a bunch of main lake ponds, zippo but didn't fish them too long. Kept having waves splash over the bow. I think I see a pattern in your question.

Temps were 59-61 today. Great day to be on the water and the fish bit pretty good too, at least until the wind turned. Was fortunate enough to put one in the boat that went 8.5, and another about 5.
Quiet a few boats out enjoying the warm weather.

Just got back from a little Choke session a couple hours ago. I fished in the rain just about all day but the wind was calm so it wasnt that bad.
The water was very off colored and in the high 50's. I mainly stuck around in the North east corner of the lake and 4 fingers. I was mainly messing around with my new side imaging and try a couple different presentations that I have been toying with. However, I did catch several decent fish.
From how and where I caught my fish, I would definately say that the fish are starting to move a go into pre-spawn pattern. It was very easy for me to pick fish up on lipless crankbaits in shallow grass around points. Though they seem to be moving up, they arent jacked up yet, all the fish I caught were still sluggish and came off of very erratic retrievs, which tells me it was a pure reaction bite. All the fish I caught were long and skinny, which makes me think they were males starting to move up. I think the bite will be really good in about 2 weeks or so.

Yeah playing with the si units is fun when you are on certain lakes, like Canyon lake. It's just amazing to see the trees 100ft deep, heres a pic. I think I need to hire a guide because I used to be able to catch fish at Choke, something must have passed by me and now I just suck. Oh well, its fun.....Sometimes? Oh by the way, I'm not too proud for GPS coords fellas .

G-Scout. Dont be too hard on yourself because a lot of people feel the same as you do. Choke is definately a different lake than it used to be and the fishing can be down right tough at times.
However, the fish are still there. Believe it or not, but TPWD surveys actually show increased numbers and size. Unfortunatly, the huge increase in fishing pressure has made bass less willing to grab baits than they used to be. The small fish will still hit fairly easy but the big guys can be downright tough to find.
What you need to do is be versatile and start trying to do things that others dont. stuff the fish havnt seen. ,

You guys quit catching the dumb fish and leave them for me . I only get to go once or twice a month. RSK, you get a bird si? Get any ? The only ones I have found that have any interesting returns are one of the bridges on the road between s. shore & huisache. I think maybe I need to fish more and not play with my graph so much?

The soon to be island between south shore and callaghan park is huisache. The island in front of the point in Callaghan park is called hog island. .
Kinda off topic but many of you fellas have never seen the lake when it was 20 ft low. Some of you fellas would poo your pants if you could see what was under your boat. It can sink your boat before you could get out of it, lots of old steel wells/pipes. There is one in front of callaghan point, one in possum creek. If the lake drops a few more feet look out, it's bad.

This one thumped an Oldham 3/4 oz Camo Football jig in 20' of water last week. Right at 8.5#, cant really tell from here, but fat as a grapefruit. Part of a 20 or 21# stringer that day. Had a 5# as well and a few solid 3.5#ers. It might not be easy right now, but there are still good days to be had out there. [/URL]

Nice fish. I like the way you have your GPS/Sonar mounted so you can face it towards the front. Is this called a RAM mount? Also next time please move a bit to your right when you photo your fish. I'm having a hard time seeing Lat/Lon at this angle (LOL).
