Lewisville is a good bass factory, Bass is not able to predict the weather or the fact that the lake came up 6 and 1/2 feet before the tournament started. There were big sacks of fish being caught before the rains brought up the lake. The lake is murky to muddy and the fish dont seem to have adjusted to well to their new environment. You factor that in with this time of year and you get some of the toughest fishing available. Hats of to the guys that caught the the only limits, dont forget that there was one maybe two 3 fish limits on the co-angler side also. This time of year is what sepeates the amatures from the hard core. gool luck today, the pro (local from McKinney)that I was paired with is in 12 place, good luck Dustin R. hope get a big sack of fish today.

many elites zeroed out or 1-2 fish, none of them are amateurs that aren't the best sticks, practiced their butt off, and approached this lake with all their experience and intensity to catch more than 1-2 fish.

BASS should move the event to the second or third tournament of the opens, as an earlier poster said, they were catching them pretty good before all the new water, bet they are having fun out there today.

I don't know why they won't change the tournament to Ray Bob. It's just as bad when the weather flips and more hogs seem to be caught there.

I would think they would eventually move it to Ray Hubbard. Way better fishing than Lewisville and there is a Bass Pro on the lake. Makes almost too much sense to me.

They dont want to try and cram 200 boats up in the river and besides, the only people who think Ray Hubbard is a good lake are the poor souls that actually have to fish it rolleyes

Yep, those 25-30 pound sacks that have been coming out of it lately are horrible. And only recently could you make it up the river.

Why not Ray Roberts? They took the slot off to get BASS to come. Better fishery and close to the metroplex.

With a full field plus it seems there would be no incentive to change it. Money talks and they have drawn it. Hope they at least move it to a later date.

They didn't take the slot off for BASS to come. BASS doesn't go anywhere unless they are paid. Nobody up here can afford to pay them.

+ it is too far to Bass Pro for an open.

It was one team that caught both of the 25+ sacks. The first tourney, the 3 teams went 25+, 6 and 0. RH is not the solution to this problem of not catching enough fish. I've never fished Lewisville, but there's no way RH is much better.

You're smoking crack if you think Hubbard isn't better than Lewisville.

Ray Hubbard isn't considered for an Open because it fishes too small. It has no on the water facilities to handle the event for 150+ boats. Pretty simple. Has nothing to do with the quality of fishing, that's a fact.

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts...

I didn't say RH might not have been marginally better than this one poor tourney on Lewisville, but it's not the solution for turning a poor tournament into a good one.

What turns a poor tournament into a good tournament?

I would think catching more than 104 keepers on Day 2 would be a start. cool

Looks like the RHBC fished their home lake in January. 30 teams and only 3 sacks over 10 lbs. 40% of the teams blanked.

http://www.rayhubbardbassclub.com/RHBC/jan.htm

I'm sticking with my guns on this one: RH is not he solution.

You're comparing a local club to a 300 angler tournament with Elite pro's in it? You are kidding right?

Not saying it's THE solution. Making light of individuals saying the Lewisville is in the same class as Hubbard when it comes to Bass Fishing.

Check your stats to see how many 25+ lb bags Lewisville has had in the past 5 years and then get back to me

RH sucks , I only fish it because I am a "poor soul" that is "forced" to fish it.

I may try and save enough gas money and go to Lewisville and try and catch some toads. Can I get everyone's info on Lewisville ??

That would be like fishing at Hubbard! Now we're talking!

All right Heavysack. Time to put up. I am ready to go out in the AM and you can show me how good Hubbard is.What you say??

Been fishing Lewisville since 96 and feb to mid march is always tough. Very few great days this time of year always thought it was me now I know it was not. Great tough challenge for all the anglers. Hell if it was easy anybody could do it. There are fish to be caught by being patient and methodical nice ones too. One more thing experience counts on this lake this time of year and not to many fishing this tournament have it. I am one that does not believe in giving that info to tournament fisherman as tournaments are a test of skill not give me's.

As an angler, you are competing against the fish right?....Whats wrong with a little competition! just because its tough, doesn't mean they have to go to somewhere easier!

Good job Jerry.

I've been fishing Lewisville for about 8 years and while its a tough lake, I've had some great days. If everyone is fishing the same lake, what's wrong with adding a little challenge if it handles 178 boats better than any other lake in the metroplex? Just 2 weeks ago, I had over 9 lbs in 3 fish with Jerry. Every lake has its day and every lake sucks at times. I wish I could have entered this year.

There's no question in my mind that RH would have fished much better than Lewisville, it's just a better bass lake than Lewisville. However it's just to small, not even considered by BASS. BASS will not be coming back to Lewisville any time soon for there Opens. They will IMO always have a tourny here in Texas but not with Bass Pro Shops. I'm guessing Big Sam, TB or RC.

Not saying it's THE solution. Making light of individuals saying the Lewisville is in the same class as Hubbard when it comes to Bass Fishing.

Check your stats to see how many 25+ lb bags Lewisville has had in the past 5 years and then get back to me
Like I said, I've never fished Lewisville, but I can't explain in words how much I hate RH. I would say that maybe I'm the only one who can't catch fish out there, but that obviously isn't the case looking at many tourney results. If Lewisville is seriously worse than RH, I can't belive BASS would have a tournament there regardless of what kind of check they could get. (which seems to be the theme of the thread)

I don't disagree that RH puts out an occasional big sack, but it seems like the number of quality sacks is always really low and the amount of folks that blank is always very high. I live 10 minutes away, but I haul an hour out to Fork when I get a chance to get on the lake.

Well, evidently your hatred and for RH has skewed your perspective. If you think Hubbard only occassionaly puts out big bags of fish, you aren't paying attention. Hubbard puts out big bags in every month of the year. Not just in the spring.

If you want to see what Hubbard can pump out to the Elite guys, check the results from the PAA All Star event last year. Those weights were with low water, 25-40 MPH winds the entire event!

Tough is correct, but thats fishin. I caught one under in the 18 hours spent on the lake day one and two. But I didnt go home empty handed. I learned things from the guys I fished with and from the guys I fished against. Ashamed that I didnt do better than that but it opened my eyes to how tough this kind of competition really is. My hat is off to all that roughed it out there and good luck to all in the future. WOW!! I wouldnt want to be out there in the morning thats for sure.

I love the fact that it was tough it seperates the great from good. It keeps the playing field even and everyone has a shot. My buddy fished co angler in the top 12 said it was the toughest tournament he's fished. I should stay in Lewisville that way no one has a clear cut edge.

I love all the critics online..

spend 3 days on the water against the best (willing to put up the cash) and see how yall do.....in the worst conditions...

I don't think a great tournament means 30# sacks.... it means close competition and a good atmosphere ....

and 2 people at the end of day one with 18.00 and 18.10 is pretty awesome, considering they are tied after day 3, with fish-off tomorrow..first legal keeper wins it!

thats exciting....all the nay-sayers need to stfu

I don't doubt you're right about it skewing my perspective. And like I said, I know it puts out big sacks, but it's always seemed to me like there are a few specific spots that only the guys who fish the lake all the time know about, because there's always a high percentage of blanks too.

Anyway, like I said, if you guys consider RH to be a considerably better fishery than Lewisville, then I sure don't ever want to fish Lewisville. Of course, all that being said, I have never been to the RH river because I didn't know how to get there and didn't want to risk damaging the boat. And I know that's where a lot of the PAA guys spent there time last year.

Wah! 50lb sacks were not caught so it's a terrible fishery!?! Ridiculous...hike up the big girl panties and do what you can with what you got...25 degrees and equal winds are difficult...period... Put that on top of the rain and it staining the water a week prior. LL is not my favorite lake but I've had good days (23-27lb sacks) and I've had bad (0lb sacks). I've done the same on every lake.

I wouldn't expect huge prize money and prize boats to be easy. Hats off to the guys who toughed it out and made the best with what mother nature provided.

For all that say Lewisville sucks, I agree but I also agree all lakes suck when it is 25 degress and the wind is blowing 30mph...No one does good in those conditions! For all that want to move it, where can you move it to and gaurantee good weather? If the tourney was two weeks ago, it would have took 20lbs a day to be in the top 12.

The city of Lewisville did a great job, the anglers did a great job, but the weather did a horrible job. We live in Texas, that is how it is here. It can snow one day and be 75 the next!

I guess I need to go fish that marina on Dalrock some!

I don't want to sidetrack this thing any more than I already have. But I got back into fishing in March 2010 and went out to RH maybe a dozen times (sometimes all day, sometimes just a couple hours) that next year and caught 8 fish total in those 12 trips. My first trip to Fork was Feb. 2011. I instantly fell in love and I haven't been to a lake other than Fork since.

Part of it could be that I grew up fishing Ray Roberts exclusively and the fishing style at Fork is so much more similar to Roberts than RH. I had never fished a rock bridge or marina in my life til I started fishing RH. It's just not a style of fishing I enjoy and maybe I'm just spoiled because my other points of reference are Fork and the 1990's Ray Roberts. Boy, you couldn't beat a fire & ice culprit worm out on Ray Bob back in the day!

the lake would never EVER take 20 lbs a day to make the top 12. That lake reacts so poorly to pressure that if you can ever average 15 a take you will make top 12, I don't care how good they bite in practice!

Brandon, two weeks ago the lake fished strong! The weather was perfect and the average sacks were 20-23lbs for best 5.

Just for clarification.... the average sack on Lewisville was 20 23 pounds for the pros during practice.... ?

I dont think so. Research weights on Lewisville and it will help you get a little bit better judge for the weights this hidden gem puts out.

Barrett...It was for me...I did my research on the lake! I know my finish didn't show it but weather had a lot to play in my finish, just like everyone else.

Right on... Congrats for even fishing in such awful conditions. Def more than I would have done.

My point is that if 178 boats were averageing 20-23 pounds in practice per day then that lake was fishing better then arguably any lake in the country and handling pressure much better then she usually does.
