Not trying to be a smartbutt here, but cheap optics arent worth the price of the scrap metal. They may work fine for a week, a month or even a year or two. But eventually, when you need to use them the most, they'll fail you and send your shots out into the "unknown."

That said, you dont have to spend $1500 on a scope, either.
For the average shooter, something like Leupold, etc will do.

I own no cheap riflescopes. No such thing as cheap and "somewhat good". You'll get folks saying bushnell, nikon, simmons, etc. but they're all junk and will not last IMO.

The best scope for the money would be a Leupold VariX II 3/9/40mm. About $150. Sometimes less on sale at Academy, etc.

just pick up a simple 3x9 nikon or leupold or burris for 100-200 and you'll be fine.

cabelas has it's leupold vx-II scopes on sale and BPS has their Nikon Buckmasters on sale for around 250$.

i guess the best words of advice could be... an inexpensive scope is like a fat girlfriend, it's okay to have one, just don't let anyone see her.

Nikon 3x9 BDC runs $300 or so. I have one on a stevens and I can punch 18" groups at 100yds. Good luck.

First time i have ever seen someone post the true group size of most guns.....If that was on the THF,it would probably have been 1/8 of an inch at 200 yds. thumb

Leupold is a good scope.

At 100yrd you should be able to punch 3-6" groupings. The more you shoot the better you'll be.

Cute Jeff but do you have a 100rd drum on a MAK90? (I sorta need a lot of ammo attached to my rifles grin )

Sorry for the hijack.

Any factory, bolt-action centerfire rifle with good ammo and a good scope should be capable of no more than 1.5" MOA at 100 yds. Anything more and it's either the shooter, the ammo, the barrel, the scope, the mounts, stock screws, tons of things that can affect accuracy.

All of my facotry guns consistently shoot sub MOA and my customs .50 MOA or less, on a windless day when I'm shooting well.

rolfmao Nope. Just done a lot of benchrest, offhand, prone and standing shooting of big bore rifles. Since I was a kid. I'm 51 now and probably shoot 1,000-1,500 rounds/year practicing. I'd be glad to meet you at a range some day and do some shooting. I'll bet you can shoot .50 MOA at 100 yds out of any of several different rifles I have.

I shoot the 1" outer dots on the target and leave the inner target for the kids.
I've been shooting for many, many years.

I've seen the glass fouzman has mounted on his long guns. Its seriously impressive. I'm pretty sure his SUV + the guns w/glass (that he brought) was over $100k. Impressive.

I agree, Fouz. Most modern rifles can shoot close to that, depending upon the ammo and shooter. I have rifles that "prefer" certain rounds. For instance an old 700 BDL in 270/win that I gave my son LOVES anything with Nosler ballistic tips. ( usually Federal premium ammo or hand loads) It'll drive tacks at 275 yds. However, the same ammo in other rifles I own isnt so great.

Remind me never to go hunting with Chickenman.... I dont need any more scars.
