I need a different line for my sandbass rig. I don't know how many times I've tied a 1/4oz Kastmaster onto some 6# Stren only to have the line snap after a couple of dozen casts. Spoof!--a three buck lure sails halfway across the lake.
Is there some new-fangled line on the market that will help prevent this? Shock leaders are out of the question. I have tried every knot known to man, but I am fumble-fingered, have bad eyes, and often drink heavily while fishing.

I use whatever line comes on the Zebco 33 and a palomar knot. Maybe you should check the line guides on your rod to make sure nothing's scraping the line ?

I would definitely check out your guides! Palomar knot is a strong quick knot to tie. Try some 8lb test Berkley Trilene XL if your fishing with a spinning reel. 8lb Sufix Siege for bait casters and spin casters. If you're fishing witha baitcaster, 6lb test might be a little light. Lotta friction for 6lb test.
