A little info on line

No need to go into detail but last year I learned a little lesson during a TSA tourney about the importance of keeping fresh line on your reel. Kerry, hush! Just a little FYI, if you’re interested. I like to use Berkely Big Game for my main line on my bait rods. I was wondering about the life span of line so I called Berkely customer service. The sticker on the spool has a "code". It goes like this: Letter - # - # - # Month - Date - Year - Shift Tricky thing is how they do the month. If you see a letter "E", that is the 5th letter in the alphabet. May is the 5th month of the year. So “E” represents May. Month – not that big of a deal, Date – no big deal, Shift – no big deal. Year – something to pay attention to. Mono has a life of 2 years, braid and fluro have an indefinite life. Now I know that there are probably a lot of people who are thinking “I have hadn’t replaced my line in 5 years and I haven’t had any problem”. Well that’s fine, until you are fishing for money and you start losing fish. That will make the guy who you are fishing with want to cut your throat. Kerry, HUSH!

Yes Folks, Its important to check your line, also check your shad tank batteries, and one final check.......check for a boat ramp behind where your staying for the TSA tournies, before you make severals trips around lake trying to launch

shelf life is dependent on storage temp, exposure to light, and lb test.
Light lines go bad faster than heavy . line in the boat house goes bad twice as fast( or more ) than line in my shop. ( dark , controlled temp )

MO Yeepers. That line that is stored in the compartments of your boat or garage through the Texas summers can start that breakdown process pretty quick.

HAte to say it but that is some good info. Also retie after several fish. That line can get knicked pretty easy.

I thought you specialized in catfish, that was the rumor I heard. Strictly a rumor! You can bet on it. I'm like 5% sure that I don't fish for those slimey skin fish.... I hope those catfish on Cedar Creek get off "my spot" later on this year. I had to go catch more bait because those little boogers wouldn't leave me alone. I say "my spot" because that seems to be how it works on that lake. A couple of ole guys on a pontoon thought that if they chunk their 3 oz weights towards my boat that would encourage me to pull in the 200ft of anchor rode and anchor to move out of their way.

Old guys in a pontoon, you have to be making that up, there are very few pontoons with old guys here, well less than a hundred anyways. Pontoons, that is.
