Anybody been to Lake Texoma with a canoe lately? I was thinking about going up to Eisenhower SP this weekend and was wondering how it has been. Also, has anybody been fishing the tailwaters below the dam.

Thanks,
Brent

Nothing below the dam but carp and drum.

Stripers come close to the banks at Eisenhower on occation.

Smallmouth are very good on the points on steep drop offs. Cast at boulders in 3-4 ft of water.

The big issue this weekend may be the weather. With temps below freezing Friday night and highs in the mid 40s Saturday with winds in the teens, it could be miserable out there. Canoes can really get blown around and Texoma is big water. Stay close to shore, wear life jackets and fish areas out of the wind.

Yes the weather is definitely concerning me...in general what is the fishing like along the shore around Eisenhower SP?

Thanks,
Brent

Thanks TarponFly...can you suggest any other good put-ins or spots to target with a canoe?

Thanks,
Brent

With this weather forecast, I wouldn't put a canoe on Texoma on Saturday:

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 34. Wind chill values between 9 and 19. North northeast wind between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Texoma gets rough in a hurry with a 20 mph wind and a north wind will blow right into most of Eisenhower's coves. On a calmer day, you can start fishing the point with the lighted fishing pier and then paddle across to the point with the gas dock fishing the tires and the rocks facing the main lake. These areas usually hold fish without having to paddle very far. However, it does not take very much wind for the boat dock point area to get dangerous.

Sunday might be a better day to try Texoma:

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 41. Southeast wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Good luck!

I agree with not paddling Texoma (or any lake)this weekend.
To answer your question yes fishing is good near the shore at Eisenhower. We yak fish the rocks near the yacht club and catch lots of smallies.

Just a thought, wonder what it will be like below the dam?

Right. I was just thinking that carp and drum beat sitting at home. Seems like down in the river bed wind might not be so bad? I am guessing...

Still very dangerous. That air temp will bring water temps down to dangerous levels. Hypothermia could kill you before you could get to shore, dry off, and warm up.

I've never fished there, but is it s boat only river? Wading is not that bad in lower temps. I've gone out at 6am and had to wait until 10am for the slush to "burn" off and still waded. I do prepare for wading in those temps though.

You can wade The Red. It has some great deep holes near the dam. I recommend carrying a knife as there is lots of mono in the water from the bait chunkers and you don't want to be tangled in it if the horn sounds.
