That's a lot of bass to eat, and the story is kinda fishy.

I used to fish that lake 3-5 times a week. I was too young to drive and would have my mom drop me off after school. She'd pick me up at dark. Lake is loaded with giant bass.

His parents e-mailed me the story this morning, probably because I've got a page on my site about lunker records.
I was going to post this here. I must say, it looks like it was dead for awhile, not just a few minutes after he let it go, as he reported, but that's just me when I look at the tail with sections missing, like dead fish get.

I hope he really caught it.

I agree. It looks dead. The coloring, eye and tail all look just like a dead fish would. To me, it doesn't look a pound over 11. But bad camera angles can make simething look bigger or smaller.

I don't know if this is true, shady, or what. My buddy lives near Pleasanton, and lets just say I've heard a lot of "Tall Tales" from locals pertaining to fishing and hunting. Once again, I'm not trying to hate and I hope the young man caught that fish legitimately. Puts him on a pretty select list of fisherman.

It's getting lost on our youth, just like every other moral in this country. They are just not being taught honest, integrity or any morals for that mater anymore. Damn big fish though.

It didn't fight because it was dead. It didn't swim away because it was dead.

Heard the back lakes are shut down to fishing. Those were some of the best frog fishing waters I've ever been on. I taught myself how to bed fish on those little lakes.

I wonder how many of you would have kept that fish if you caught it when you were 13 years old? It's just a bass, we can grow more.

Now before you go off chastising me, I release every bass I catch, other than the very few that die on me because of circumstances beyond my control. But I don't get mad at someone that wants to keep their limit if they so choose. That's why we have fish and game laws to begin with.

I'm getting tired of people going overboard with the whole catch and release thing. If he caught it in a legal and sporting manner, its his fish to keep. When you catch an 18 lber you can let it go if you want or keep it. Keeping a few every now and then probably helps the population, especially in small lakes like that one.

Rant over, carry on.

Big fish, good for him.

How big is the lake?

I personally choose to catch and release. However, if someone wants to keep fish thats totally up to them.

Apparently from his friends comments, he didn't catch it in "a sporting manner". He scooped up a dead fish and tried to claim he caught it.
