When fishing jigs how much action do you usually, of course depending on conditions, add with the rod tip when vertical jigging crappie?

90% of the time they hit when it's still this time of year. Other times of year the fall can be deadly.

Agree with Crappieking. An occasional dip (not a raise of the tip). Don't know if it helps the fish or just keeps me alert.

When I'm fishing brush I only move a tiny bit. On bridge pilings I drop a couple feet below the fish and reel up slowly. Seems to work way better than sitting still.

The occasional "rod dip" is deadly but sometimes, since I try to stay in contact with my line, as I jig I hold some line in my right hand with my fishing rod in the other occasionally taking my index finger and just twitching that line. I have a pool so I occasionally take a lure and see what it does under water and that technique looks just like a minnow. Good luck!! Jess

Yesterday I was working the jig upward with my left hand "Stitching" got lots of thumps doing that. Next day maybe dead stick. Point is try it all. But be slow about it.

Like most are saying the "rod dip" plus swimming it slowly to the left or right...

Sounds good thanks for all the help. I use to bass fish all the time got tired of catching fish I didn't want to eat. Also tired of baiting minnows for crappie so the crappie jig is a new weapon for me.

If you never needed a minnow to catch a bass, why would you need one now to catch a crappie?

Drop a jig in a 2 liter soda bottle filled with water. Hold it very still. You'd be surprised how much motion that steady rod tip has.

I like to flail my arms around around beating the water and making monkey sounds, usually limit in about 30 minutes or less.

Depends on time of year but slow and steady almost always works.

If you never needed a minnow to catch a bass, why would you need one now to catch a crappie? Minnows can be very useful and at times, a necessity.... The Crappie Force is strong within minnows..... P.S. Shinners catch massive bass by the way......

I usually tell our fishermen new to jig fishing to work a jig like a minnow, the boat usually takes care of rest. If it's calm, I'll make very subtle rod twitches, so as to feel my bait actually "bounce." In certain conditions, I may also be inclined to pitch the bait, and let it fall back to me, like a pendulum.
