Tough day today

It's going to be a long day today. My 11 yr old rott/lab mix dog has been on the decline in the past couple of months and it's obvious her hips have been giving her a lot of trouble/pain when trying to get up and walk. Last night, she couldn't even sit up to eat so I had to lay the bowl by her front feet so she could eat while laying down. I heard her whining this morning about 4 am and just couldn't take it any longer so I too her to the 24 hr emergency vet and had her put down. I know it was the best thing for her but that didn't make it any easier.

just remember that she gave you a solid 11 years of being a damn good dog and she's feeling no pain anymore, it sucks, i had to do this last month as well.

Sorry to hear man. It's tough but the right thing to do. I had to do this back in November and it's one of the hardest things I have gone through. Keep your head up man.

im dreading the day i will have to do that to my girl. she is 8, so i don't know how many more years she will hold up. she still is young at heart and loves to play. its gonna break our heart when that time comes. sorry for your loss man.

Thanks. One of her favorite things to do was get after the various wildlife that invariably ended up in our yard. She killed at least 4 oppossums, 7+ (lost count) cats and she caught several squirrels by herself over the years. She loved it when I would walk outside and say, "let's get them squirrels". She would run to the oak tree and start circling it, looking up to find the squirrel. Once she would see it, she would lock onto it and freeze, staring up at it to show me where it was. When she was laying on the vets table this morning with her head down, I was petting her and talking to her. I asked her one last time, "let's get them squirrels!" She could barely lift her head off the table but showed little excitement. She turned to me as if saying, "Sorry, you're on your own this time." That's when I knew I made the right choice.

SAME exact thing with my lab! all the dogs would be running around being stupid but she'd sit under the oak tree with a dead lock on that squirrel. at the vet, i said "where's the squirrel?" and she didn't even raise her head. i knew it was time. so sad but i know they'll now have all the squirrels to chase.

Very sorry to hear that man! I'm dealing with it daily, I've got a 14.5 year old German Shorthair Pointer who needs a little help everyday and barks outside when she need my help to get up.
Just remember the GOOD times!

It's always sad to have to go thru something like that but it's the right thing to do. It's much better than constantly knowing that the dog is in pain.
