Sorry for all the questions. This is my first trip to Falcon. Should I get a Mexico fishing license or will I be fine just fishing the american side?
Also if I do get a Mexico fishing license it has to be done in advance correct, and how long will it take to get it?

Plenty of good water to fish on US side. You can get a Mexico license from Falcon Lake Tackle when you get down there. I don't recommend anyone fishing on that side until they get familiar with the lake.

I just want to ask a couple of questions. If you are fishing on the mexican side and see a boat that is clearly not an american bass boat, in the vicinity, and coming in your direction. Who is going to just sit and let that boat come up to you or are you going to get the hell out of the area. Are there really any law enforcement on the mexican side? I was told by a local that there had not been any seen on the lake in several years. So if you are not planning on sticking around with suspicious boat activity in your area. What are you going to do with the Mexican license?

My view on the Mexican license is its a waste of money. Like you said, what moron is gonna let any boat get close to them in Mexico? Also, when is the last time someone actually got checked for a Mexico license?

Don't know if they checked for fishing licenses, but I certainly wouldn't want to be without one in that situation

I fish the Mexican side alone 4 or 5 days a week. I can tell you what I wouldnt do. I would not be seen cutting the main line on a locals gill net and I sure would not be over there without a current Mexican licence. Anyone else can do what ever they want and listen to whoever they may.

Think about it fellas.....your boat and motor with reels, poles, electronics, etc, etc are between 10k and 80k. Ya gonna roll the dice over a $40 dollar license?

Try coming back to US waters without a Mexico license and try explaining to the US coast gaurd what you were doing over there. Plan on loosing a couple hours of fishing time. Have heard this happen to a few people.

You can't complain about people from the South of the border coming across and doing something they know is illegal if you are going to purposefuly go across the border and do something you know is illegal.
As for me, I'll stay perfectly legal and continue bitc8ing about those who don't.

I agree with the "get your license" crowd. It's 60 bucks... that's a heck of a lot cheaper than what you'll probably be paying if you get pulled over in mexico. 60 bucks for peace of mind is nothing. Do it right if you are going to do it.

Thanks I guess I was mistaken. Are you saying you can get your mexico fishing license in 1 day? Yes, got to the register at Falcon Tackle and say you want a license and within a couple of minutes you'll have one. As far as i know, there are no local equivalants to our TPW over in Mexico--I don't think lone law enforcement people would last long in northern Mexico right now. So theere is no government entity making sure people are following Mexican fishing laws. With that said, it is the law and if we fancy ourselves being responsible, law biding people we should follow the law. On the topic of not letting another boat come-up on you -- good luck running from every approaching boat. I don't know how many time I've been fishing around a point or in some trees when a Mexican netter has approached my position before I could have pulled my trolling motor up, secure my gear and get my big motor going.

Absolutely get a Mexican license if you are going to fish on that side. Its the right thing to do, which really should be reason enough. Its also the law and certainly not worth the risk of getting caught without one. I have never been checked for Mexican license either but NO ONE on this forum can tell you for sure if the Mexican authorities will be checking licenses tomorrow or next week. Why take the chance.

Yes, alot of people don't get then and have never got one. We used to just out run them at amistad if we saw them coming or if they try to stop us. Which was once every 5 years maybe, but know they have boats that have as much if not more hp than you do. I have heard of to many story's in the last 15 years of boat be taken and drag out of the water. $60 dollars is worth the peace of mind have it and knowing you are not doing anything wrong.

The Mexican GW at Amistad usually has 2 police officers or soldiers with her and they are packing { auto rifles }. I don't think I can outrun one of their rounds and would not even think about it. They say she speaks good english and is very nice.Just pay the $60 and have a good time.

Not trying to hijack this post but, yesterday, I witnessed a couple of handcuffed Mexican fishermen being arrested and their boat being confiscated. I asked what they had done and was told they were fishing illegally on the U.S. side. Now for all of you penny pinchers out there, I pose this question. What if it was you stopped on the other side about to loose your boat and all of your gear? Would $40 for a week or $60 for a year be too much to spend. Think of all of the other money that you have spent already to get there. I have fished over 30 days at Falcon in the last twelve months and no, I have not seen any kind of warden but, I am in their country and I don't mind the piece of mind. It could save you your gear and your rear. And by the way, if you think you can fish the Mexican side and always see what is coming, you are wrong. They can be on top of you in a heartbeat. Just my $.02 cents worth.

Lol, is this the same crowd that's usually ready to crucify someone for breaking any law in Texas. I just got my Mexican license in the mail. A one week license was like 20 something dollars. Most of us spend twice that any time we go near a tackle store. Why would you even consider not being legal going into another country.

If they don't need a drivers license or insurance over here, why should you bother with a fishing license for over there. Just because someone else doesn't do it here, doesn't make it right for you to do it over there. Breaking the law is breaking the law. If you have been watching the news the last couple of years it's what our government has been trying to fix. They want you to be here llegally and documented. I think it's only fair for Americans to lead by example.

Lose your boat and spend some time in a Mexican jail for no telling how long, and the next time you go fishing down there you might see your old boat w/ some Mexican locals having a good time w/ your tackle and boat.

It's 60 bucks for a year and you can get it at the tackle shop on the way to the ramp in the morning, not worth the risk of being in a mexican prison with your junk confiscated.
I haven't been asked for a texas fishing license in a couple of years either, by some opinions on here i should stop buying those too.
And from what others have said, lead by example. Don't want foreigners breaking laws here? But will break foreign laws to save a few bucks, can't have it both ways..

Thanks it was never a question of getting a Mexico fishing license if I fish that side. I will deffinatly get one if I fish in mexican waters. With the cost of this trip what is another $60.
I was just miss informed. I thought you had to send away to get one and could not get one at the point of sale.

Try coming back to US waters without a Mexico license and try explaining to the US coast gaurd what you were doing over there. Plan on loosing a couple hours of fishing time. Have heard this happen to a few people. They arnt allowed to check you for your mexican fishing license. Thats what they told me atleast. They can ask to see anything you got in your possession. Legally you can refuse, but they can and will take up a lot of your fishing time. No, you won't get a ticket from US authorities for not having a Mexico fishing license, but why give them a reason to waste your time. Be legal, be safe!

No, you won't get a ticket from US authorities for not having a Mexico fishing license, but why give them a reason to waste your time. Be legal, be safe! I always have a mexican fishing license and always offer it to border patrol and game wardens... Every time they tell me "We litterally dont care about that peice of paper" If your going to go to Mexico buy a license. Its hard to understand that Mexico IS ANOTHER COUNTRY! They do not play fair.
