Sorry for all the questions.
This is my first trip to Falcon.
Should I get a Mexico fishing license or will I be fine just fishing the american side?

Also if I do get a Mexico fishing license it has to be done in advance correct, and how long will it take to get it?

Plenty of good water to fish on US side.
You can get a Mexico license from Falcon Lake Tackle when you get down there. I don't recommend anyone fishing on that side until they get familiar with the lake.

I just want to ask a couple of questions. If you are fishing on the mexican side and see a boat that is clearly not an american bass boat, in the vicinity, and coming in your direction. Who is going to just sit and let that boat come up to you or are you going to get the hell out of the area. Are there really any law enforcement on the mexican side? I was told by a local that there had not been any seen on the lake in several years. So if you are not planning on sticking around with suspicious boat activity in your area. What are you going to do with the Mexican license?

My view on the Mexican license is its a waste of money. Like you said, what moron is gonna let any boat get close to them in Mexico? Also, when is the last time someone actually got checked for a Mexico license?

I think people have been stopped by the marines recently. Don't know if they checked for fishing licenses, but I certainly wouldn't want to be without one in that situation

If your going to fishin in Mexico get a mexican fishing license. That is a different country and the rules arn't the same. Waste of money or not- dont be stupid.

I fish the Mexican side alone 4 or 5 days a week. I can tell you what I wouldnt do. I would not be seen cutting the main line on a locals gill net and I sure would not be over there without a current Mexican licence. Anyone else can do what ever they want and listen to whoever they may.

pretty solid post.....I fish Mexican creeks 75% of the time. Think about it fellas.....your boat and motor with reels, poles, electronics, etc, etc are between 10k and 80k. Ya gonna roll the dice over a $40 dollar license?

Try coming back to US waters without a Mexico license and try explaining to the US coast gaurd what you were doing over there. Plan on loosing a couple hours of fishing time. Have heard this happen to a few people.

You can't complain about people from the South of the border coming across and doing something they know is illegal if you are going to purposefuly go across the border and do something you know is illegal.

As for me, I'll stay perfectly legal and continue bitc8ing about those who don't.

I agree with the "get your license" crowd. It's 60 bucks... that's a heck of a lot cheaper than what you'll probably be paying if you get pulled over in mexico. 60 bucks for peace of mind is nothing. Do it right if you are going to do it.

My husband and I did our first trip to Falcon in January, we did not get a Mexico license. It was made pretty clear that if a boat was coming that was not another fisherman, get out... smile

yeaqh they can confiscate all your stuff including your boat and i've heard of them running around in bass boats(probably confiscated) so if you take off, i'm sure they will pursue

Yes, got to the register at Falcon Tackle and say you want a license and within a couple of minutes you'll have one.

As far as i know, there are no local equivalants to our TPW over in Mexico--I don't think lone law enforcement people would last long in northern Mexico right now. So theere is no government entity making sure people are following Mexican fishing laws. With that said, it is the law and if we fancy ourselves being responsible, law biding people we should follow the law.

On the topic of not letting another boat come-up on you -- good luck running from every approaching boat. I don't know how many time I've been fishing around a point or in some trees when a Mexican netter has approached my position before I could have pulled my trolling motor up, secure my gear and get my big motor going.
