@hardin19 Just blessed to be fishing in the collegiate bass fishing arena amongst several great student-anglers throughout the country.
No hard feelings directed at any comments on the forum - everyone is entitled to their own opinion. DBU's coaches/sponsors travel with the team and as hard as it is for them to be at a tournament and not fish, the least they could do is back down the boat and put the boys in to the water.
They struggled out at Rayburn - fish and learn. Most of the members on their team are freshman, as they are in their first year of the program. I know they just competed in their first FLW National Guard event on Amistad this past weekend. I believe they got 18th of 40 and hadn't ever fished Amistad.
Great group of guys.
Wish you all well this season.

Couldn't have said it better. Not only is it a fishing program but the guys are like brother with the support and encouragement they give eachother from what I hear. They are only in their first year. In the next 4 years I'm sure you'll hear more about them.

They have the hook up, but I can guarantee that their members put in the time to grow the club and find sponsors! They are lucky to go to a school that shows such an interest in the clubs success. I takes us all summer and a lot of man hours to find sponsors for our club it would be nice to have the support they get too!

The problem with a post like this is there could be a two day tourney when you only have 8.74lbs. Then everyone will remember this post- And if you didn't want to look like an A-hole, probably should have thought about this one before hitting submit- No offense meant but sounds like the young men at DBU need a little encouragement, not ridicule-

You say you are not trying to start anything but you are. Go to DBU and be on the team. I guess you catch a 30 lb sack everytime you fish.. Oh by the way the boat I saw at Belton is SWEEEET!! Good group on young men...

Keep in mind that many of them may never have been on that particular lake and it's a big lake too. Might need to check your ego at the door and remember what it's like to fihs a big body of water for the first time. All I can really say is that I wish they had this available when I went to school there! WOOHOO!

I am glad that another school has shown a lot of support for a bass team. Tarleton has done a fair amount for us over the years, but it is not a bit as much as DBU. My only worry regarding recruitment for fishing, etc. Is that there is always an issue regarding who gets to fish championships, etc. Bethal, the other university that is similar to DBU has never had much success and has always had lots of inner club issues. I wish DBU the best of luck, but by taking the approach of training freshman, with limited experience, to be good anglers via coaches, etc might be a long road.

Those guys are going to hurt themselves or somebody else because of the way they drive. They have no respect for the weather conditions and they'll pay for it, eventually.

Thou shall not covet thy neighbors bass boat.
Why is this even on TFF? This is a dumb topic.

Aren't you the next KVD or Skeet Reese? Oh, that's right, you're not!! However, before you criticize what a school or individual has, try getting a better job or in their case sponsors and then you can have the same. Until then, you might want to take a few classes yourself and become a more efficient and effective speller. Might learn something, or maybe you (COULDENT). Just saying......

Why don't they recruit talented freshman, like every other sport? Im not necessarily saying they didnt. Just seemed like this first year, they kinda went with who was there and tried to develop the talent. Not saying it cant be done, but its just hard for someone to teach you how to fish. Seems to be mucdh more about time on the water. Im really not one to knock on anyone elses abilities nor anyone elses program. I have been an average angler since I started college fishing. I hope it works out and other schools follow their lead. I guess when someone does something different, there are always critics. And I guess I would be put in that catagory.

I spent some time with their coach at the Dallas Boat Show this past weekend and from our conversations they are on the right track. There are several other schools that are in the process of doing what DBU and Bethel have done. The most important thing here is just like any other sport... A college education... and the added potential of learning how to make it as a professional fisherman or other career I applaud any university that broadens there scholarship programs to sports other than just the major sports. For some young people this may be the only way they could afford a degree. Weather they can catch fish or not! It would benefit the school and other schools if this DBU team does well this year, so let's encourage them to succeed!!!

Just like any first year program whether its basketball or football or whatever the are going to struggle at times. You have to give them some time. Fish and get and education at the same time on there dime

I have personally had the opportunity to talk and fish with some of the DBU guys and they are a good bunch of guys and very appreciative for what they have. They are excited to fish and learn new things. Yea they have alot of nice things but they also worked their tails off to get where they are with getting sponsors and support from their school. I know some of the other schools are giving them [censored] about getting that kind of support but they did put in the time and effort and it has paid off for them in a big way. I wish them all the luck in the world and hope they have an outstanding fishing season!!!!

I haven't personally seen anyone hating on the DBU boys, but it doesn't surprise me. People are always quick to put down things they don't have. Jealousy can make people do and say some pretty lame things. I wish them the best of luck this season. It's pretty cool to see Universities showing support for their fishing teams!
