Ive been hearing alot about the lews reels. What is a good one to get? Ive searched them online and looked at some at academy. There seems to be alot to choose from. I want a 7:1:1 gear ratio and want to spend around 120 bucks on one.

Just got two of the tournament speed spools and like them. The TS1S and TS1HS both worked well for me at Amistad last week. Slightly less than the Tournament Pro model so it is closer to your target price. Weight is about 1.5 ounces more than the Tournament Pro model.

Anyone use the tournament MG? Was thinking bout getting the 5:1 and its the only lefty model they have with that ratio. I have heard great things about the tournament pro and will be purchasing one shorty.

tournament pro model# TP1SH 7.1:1 gear ratio. this is a very very nice reel for the money! if I could afford it, I would replace all my shimano's with this very reel(except for a 5.1:1 cranking reel, which would be the 5.4:1)... the carbon fiber drag, the internal gears, the external sideplates, the size.. it all works for me... of course, everyone is different and has their own opinion.

Start off with the Lew's Speed Spool SS1SH and see how you like it. Same price at Academy but if you order from Tackle Warehouse, it's free shipping and no tax so you save about $8 if you can wait for UPS to deliver it. I have this one and the Tournament Pro model for $200 and I like them both equally well! I have one Shimano Curado 200 E7 and I still like it fine, but I see why Ronnie would like to replace his with Lew's... yep'r they're mighty reels alright!!! thumb

Like PaParon said the 99 dollar ones are great I have 2 7.1:1 and they are nice Im planning on getting one of the 199 dollar ones they are sweet but for 99 the Speed Spools are nice and IMO actually cast baits just as good if not a little better then my Curados to me anyways.

Has anyone had one for very long? How long have they been out? The review on TackleTour shows 5/1/11.

I have Shimano's that have lasted a very long time so I'd like to hear some reviews by someone who's owned one for a while, but that may be a few years since they are new?

Glad I'm set with what I've got for a while, but they do look feel good.

they're the same internally and quality wise as the Revos. I had a Revo S for 3 years that I used, abuse and beat to he11 and back and it was still kicking along just fine.

Had several other Revo's as well, but none as long as that one Revo S.

The only problem I ever had with any was the line guide popped out of place on one of them. Minor for 1/10 reels if you ask me (I've had worse luck than 1/10 being a lemon even with the vaunted Curado B).

I've been fishing the Lew's line of reels since 1976 when they partnered with Shimano and introduced their first reels in the US. Some of those first reels lasted 25 years. I still fish 'em and still love 'em.

For the price range that you are looking for, the Tournament Speed Spool is what you need TS1HS. Its super smooth, I use it for my froggin rig. I have the Tour Pros for my flippin rigs but the least expensive regular Speed Spools are the best reel for the price. I have several and they are awesome.

All my friends were die hard Corado fans until I let the use my Lew's reels and they are selling their Shimano's and getting Lew's.

Lew's Speed Spool Casting Reel - $99.99 - is this comparable to a citica or curado?

I fish Curados and Citicas. However, I did win a SS1H from Wired2Fish when they came out. It's a nice reel for the money. I would consider trying one over the new G series Shimanos for the price.

I didnt know the SS1SH didnt have the centrifical brakes. Which lews reels have the 4 centrifical brakes you can push in or out? I was wondering if that makes a difference. Im gonna try mine on raven this weekend
