Saw a spot on the news where one of the Giants owners had to take a shot at Dallas at their pep rally today... "Dallas calls themselves "Americas Team"... we are "Americas Dream". Fail. Number one... act like you have been there before.... Number two... I have never seen a Dallas owner/GM call out another team when celebrating one of five SB wins.... and Number three.... NFL Films tagged the 70's Cowboys with that title nearly 40 years ago. Cowboy envy is still alive.

I disagree, This is press driven drivel. Being "America's Team" gets you nothing, No ring, belt, money etc. I could care less what a team wants to call itself other than World Champs.

It's press driven when someone says the Steelers, Giants, etc... are America's team? I'm talking about individuals and even players/owners who say these things.

Being America's team gets you the sale of more team merchandise than all the others.

My point is this owner of the Giants obviously has Cowboy envy because he is bringing it up while speaking at the city parade. The aura and subsequent name placed on the team by NFL films was because a stretch of winning that will likely never be matched, road sellouts, merchandise sales. They are the most loved and hated team in the NFL.

Cowboy envy may alive but the Cowboys still suck and are an embarrassment to many.

Lots of bandwagon fans (SB or suck / embarrassed) are another trait of the organization.

Actually Green Bay passed the Cowboys in '09 for overall merchandise sales. Not sure if Dallas took the lead back last year though.

The Cowboys lost the Americas Team title when they started hiring hoodlums and n'er do wells as players. America as a whole, doesn't want a team of convicts and drug addicts representing them on any playing field or off.

We lost it when greed and lust of winning trumped morality and good sportsmanship. It comes with a high price tag.

That being said, I don't personally feel like there is an "America's team" anymore. The title seemed to have more meaning when it was a bunch of guys that real people could relate to. Now, the NFL is just a bunch of thugs who get paid 100 times the average person and while it's fun to watch, there's nobody in the NFL for the average Joe to relate to. There's no team that doesn't have problems with drugs, PEDs, or something else conduct-related.

Brady had the best shot at being someone relatable because he was drafted in the 6th round and not a household name, until he married a supermodel. I think that same fascination followed Romo for awhile, but he's lost that relat-ability for a number of reasons.

All he did was give the Cowboys some free pub. Jerry probably paid him to say it.

Nate and his bales of wacky weed in his Mercedes, etc., all contributed to the demise of "Americas Team". Bye-bye. The only hope is that the pendulum will swing back and there will be a zero tolerance on off field antics. One strike, yer out. Tom Landry was the last of the great coaches for the boys. He wouldn't put up with the kind of carp today.

Looks like a few of you are starting to get "it." The only difference between the NFL in the 70's vs today is media coverage. Well, I shouldn't say the only difference but there were plenty of bad apples back then too. Yet, people sit around and complain that the NFL is full of thugs. I bet, as a whole, the NFL is no more filled with thugs than the general population. All that talk is much ado about nothing IMO.

And the only difference between the Cowboys of the Landry / Schramm era, Jimmy Johnson era and today is.... Those coaches / GM's knew football. How to judge players and talent. Unlike this era overseen entirely by Mr. Jones, who values flash over draft picks, jersey sales over ability, and above all media exposure over winning.

I was born and raised a Dallas Cowboy fan but I have to say that I'm about sick of Jerry Jones and how he's ruined this team. I'll never leave them, never root for any other team... But he's making me... not care.. ya know?
