I have an 09' Alumacraft 1860 tunnel hull. Rated for a 115 but has an 90hp yamaha with a hydraulic jackplate. Recently it started taking on water. Was thinking it may be the plugs but after a few trips I noticed a 4' crack on the hull right where the tunnel is at the rear of the boat. Carried it in and the warranty fixed it.

As it turns out, the other side (left) also had a crack starting to form. They welded up both sides and said they could find no reason for this.

Boat has absolutely not damgage to it. Maybe has 15hrs of run time and have never hit anything. Sits and rides great on the trailer.

Anyone have anything like this happen to theirs?

Anything built by humans can have flaws, Alumicraft is really good at warranty work, let them do the right thing for you.

Make sure you stay in warranty and have all your tuneups etc. done at the dealer. I wonder if the jackplate is straining the hull on the trailer?

Pictures of where exactly this crack is/was would be helpful.

They come from the factory with hydraulic plates.

im also wondering if its missing some supports somewhere near the transom or stringers, or they were not welded or riveted in from the factory,. is there any odd vibrations or noises when in the boat?

Look...
That hull is under warranty, get hold of your dealer or alumacraft, they do NOT want someone having issues without a chance to make things correct.

My experience from selling them, they were always trying to make things right for their customers, so give them a chance to do the right thing before this becomes a mud slinging contest.

And...a tunnel hull with a hydraulic jack plate does not need or want a transom saver, they just need to run down the road straight up and down, plenty of clearance.

Maybe you should get a laywer and demand a replacement boat. Your boat value has been damaged by this problem.

IF it is cracking in the tunnel it may keep on running.
I have fought the same thing on a tin boat and a Red Fin.
Both boats were under warranty but it was still a pain.

Update, today was my fourth time out in it since the repairs. Yep, crack showed back up on both sides today.

I called and this time Alumacraft wants to pick the boat up theirselves to find out "why" this keeps happening.

So far I am very pleased with the way Alumacraft is handling this. Only problem is that it's gonna be a 3 week turnaround. Looks like I'll be missing out on the spawn... I'll keep everyone posted.

Also, thanks to Texas Boat World. Guys have been great helping me with this.

I'd ask 'em for a new boat. Actually,I would demand a new boat. They don't want a story, like yours, out there. Talk to your Attorney.
