It has nothing to do with the economy but everything to do with the former owner Tom Hicks. For years he'd been trying to sell the team and refused to spend money on payroll and promoting the team.
Hicks is a jerk.

Or it could be that Hockey ain't very popular here anymore! Is there even a generation here that remembers the Stanley Cup? Hell, it's almost as long ago as the Cowgirls last Superbowl victory.
There are an absolute ton of kids that play hockey in DFW.
More and more highschools are getting teams every year. And every local rink that I play on is getting more popular and its harder and harder to get ice time as time goes on
I still have 2 Dallas Blackhawks seat cushions...anyone remember it was Eric Nadel who announced the games in person and did the radio for away games. I remember you could get a Schlitz in a huge carton probably 32 oz for something like $2. Also folks could walk from one side of the State Fair Coliseum while the game was underway and every now and then someone would get hit with a puck kind of like a shooting gallery...good times...

That is a shocking picture. I would say it has nothing to do with the economy. From looking at the Super Bowl expenses and the lines to get Nike shoes and Call of Duty X-Box games - I would say the economy is good!

I do.
Hockey was the only sport I was good at back in the day
