Were can I get a loaner AS PC 3 cable to do an update on my HB 570DI?

I registered my product and found the download, but do not have the cable.

snmcc, I have the same unit and just registered it. I see the download and need the cable as well. Below is a review, from Cabela's site, on the cable. I haven't had a chance to fool with it, but it sounds like we only need a digital camera and its memory card. I hope this helps. I'll let you know if I was able to get the download later.

The Humminbird PC Connection cable does exactly what they say it does - and no more. What it doesn't do is what the product descriptions insinuate that it does. If you think this will allow you to run emulation software like Humminbird's key sonar/gps competitors - the software does not exist. Humminbird PC Connect will not allow you to view purchased cartography or even the purchased unit's base map on your computer monitor - and without these maps how are you supposed to manage routes and waypoints - which is what it is advertised to do. You really can't. All the software will show you is a grid - no features, outlines, nothing - just a grid. Oh, the grid may have your waypoints, or your route, but there's no map to reference it to. So what can you actually do with the cable set - download updates. That's it...

Without this cabling you could easily do the update downloading with a blank SD card and a digital camera as a card reader, which most people will already have in their home. You can upload the updates from the SD card with the unit connected to boat power.

When Humminbird PC Connect becomes real emulation software, the cable will be a bargain and a useful tool.

You don't use a digital camera or a SD card with the HB cable. It is a direct connection between your computer and the 570.

I think what he was getting at was using the SD card instead of the cable. It works, but not on the 570. There is no slot for the card. I just watched a video on youtube where the guy updated in this manner. Looks like I'll be buying the cable though.

The cable comes with a battery holder to power the unit during that process.
Most newer computers don't have a serial port so you will need the USB adaptor to hook the cable to your computer.
The adaptor is the AS USB.

snmcc, I hear ya on that! I went and picked up the AS PC2 got home and hooked it up to a serial port to usb converter and it doesn't work. Looks like you have to buy Hummingbirds version of the converter in order for it to work. Well... that's another fifty bucks! Think I may be returning my unit and with the cable I purchased. I may be a Lowrance guy from now on.

and

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Vantec-USB-to-Serial-Adapter/15751810

Will these two items work?

If you didnt have power connected it wont work. You may need to hook it up to the power connected to your boat...

Good question. I tried the version of the, usb to serial port adapter, that I had and they didn't jive. My neighbor is much more tech savy than I and said he would be over after dinner to give it a try with a adapter that he has. I have a feeling that it may only work with Hummingbirds adapter @ $46.99 on their site. I'll let you know the final verdict.

That looks like a winner, but it doesn't include the power pack. If you have wireless internet and a laptop it would do the trick. The power pack is just so you can take the unit in the house and play with it, I think anyways.

How long have you had your unit and what do you think about it so far?

Mine only freezes up under a couple of feet or in heavy grass.

Have you visited your local Humminbird Dealer? Many Local Dealers will update software for their customers at no charge and many have the cable. One of the benefits of buying local.

Yes it is a good idea, but Humminbird dealers may not carry all models.

It doesn't make any difference if the dealer carrier a certain model or not. The software procedure is the same for the cable installation process. They just need the software version in their files. Call a dealer to find out.

Humminbird Dealers have access to an account for all software for any model and can download the new software and update any unit. Many have the PC Connect Kit and will do it for their customers as part of the added value of purchasing from them for units that do not have an SD Card slot

I bought it at academy as that is what we have in Abilene. I sent it out today to humminbird repair. I was going to get the cables, but got an email from Humminbird customer service that highly suggested that I send it in. If you lose power during download unit has to be sent to factory for repair. Now what I am really interested in is how much will they charge me to update when it is out of warranty?

Not worth the money to buy a cheaper unit that you can not update at home is what I have learned...

They probably won't charge you for updating.
But if you had tried it yourself and lost power while doing it, they will charge you the repair cost to fix it.
The updates replace all the unit's operating software with new software. Most of the new software is what the unit had, you just get more added on to get new features and change some old ones.

Used my 570 DI today after being sent in to Humminbird for the update and works as advertised. Did not restart once today and maintained the bottom depth at under a foot.
