I fished Lavon today and caught a nice blue. I only have a 50# Berkly digital scale and was afraid I would ruin it. The cat was 45 3/4 inches long with a girth of 30.5 inches. Would someone please give me the formula for estimating the weight.

How close is this? I ask b/c my new PB at Hubbard this weekend was 17.5 on my crappy BPS scale, but it felt bigger. I measured it at 34"L with 20" girth, which by this formula says it's 22.67. I know it can't be exact, but could it be possible I broke into the 20's?

L x's G (sq)/ 800
so 45.75 x's (30.5 x 30.5)/800
45.75 x's 930.25/800
42558.94/800
= 53.2 lbs.......
Capt. Larry and a cpl others swear by this +/- 4%
I've tested formula ob several weighed fish and it was always real close.....

That was the formula I had in mind. Just couldn't remember it. About 300 yards or so due north of the flood gates.

The other one uses the same formula for bass and catfish. That just doesn't sound right.
