There was a 73 year-old female pedestrian hit and killed by a wrecker driver in Houston, yesterday.

Racing to be the first to a call, I'm sure. These Houston wrecker drivers do not obey traffic laws in the least. They speed, drive wrecklessly and will flat run your rear over if you get in their way. Plus, I think to drive a wrecker in Houston you have to be a morbidly obese, dirty slob.

Are the wrecker drivers in the DFW metromess the same way?

Don't know... to busy dodging them to properly analyze the situation.

...and you're right, they seem to all have a similar profile.

I saw this on the news last night, wrecker driver didn't even know he hit the woman until people were waving him down. These guys need to be slowed down the drive like a bat out of He77 to put their lil token in a hat to see if they get a car. i'm very surprised you don't hear of more people killed by wrecker drivers these guys down here are unreal.

I certainly noticed this when we lived in Houston 20 years ago but have not seen the same in the DFW area.

I remember them flying up the shoulder even.

I've often wondered if wrecker driver's were immune from traffic laws in Houston. One of them sideswiped my truck at a gas station once and the police officer acted surprised that I wanted to report it.

I haven't noticed it too much in Dallas, but on occasion I do. It's worse in Ft Worth, especially south of Ft Worth

I flat turned one in to local PD and to the company that employed him. We were pulling up in the left turn lane at a red light when this idiot cut on 30' of the left turn lane make his own left turn too fast. I think I honked at him for being reckless. He turn at the next corner to chase me down. If I would have been sitting in the left turn lane where I was supposed to be he would have killed us.

That was the wrong thing to do. You don't p***off TexasBlonde. I went straight to the police station and to his place of employment and spoke to the owner. Driving reckless was bad enough but to try to chase me down after he almost hit us was not a good idea. The owner's ears were singed by the time I left and I did not have to utter a single expletive. He was very apologetic about his driver's behavior.

I have not seen him driving for that wrecker service since that day.

I used to drive a wrecker, and there are a lot of idiots out there. I do not know how it is done here, but AAA and 911 had areas assigned back home to avoid this kind of thing...

But on the other hand, a lot of people do not give them the respect the deserve either. You can not stop a loaded truck on a dime, but a lot of people assume the other. Not defending the idiot drivers. Just saying, if you see a loaded down truck, give em some space...

BMJ, there are a lot of idiot out there, for sure. If they won't even pull over for an ambulance and fire truck to get by, a wrecker trying to pick up a vehicle will probably be given even less respect. I just shook my head at an idiot that was behind me two weeks ago when an ambulance was trying to get by. He goosed his vehicle to try and pass everyone that had pulled over. Karma got him because his vehicle died and he could not get it started again.

The guy that almost crashed into me did not have a vehicle that he was towing and was not on a service call.

Yup... same deal with big rigs. I see them guys getting cut off all the time for what? To save 20 seconds? No excuse. I couldn't drive a rig, especially after driving tow truck. No way no how...

Yup. Some buddies of mine had a boot party on one of those guys after he ran over his bike and took off. Never jack with a man's Harley unless you have a death wish.

I have brought this subject up last year. I do not like them nor will I ever make their life easier even if I can. I despise tow truck drivers with a passion.

They speed even when they're not going to a call. I've seen them pass people on the shoulder and ride their hind end in an attempt to force them over. I'm pretty sure when they build a tow truck they disable the turn signals. The cop friends I have can't stand them either.

To me it seems the wrecker drivers in DFW try to see how long it can take them to get to the scene when there's a wreck or break down on 635.

I have lived in both DFW and Houston. The tow truck drivers definitely behave differently down there. I think it is driven by the coin in the hat race which does not occur in DFW.

Why don't they (police) have them on rotation? Is it too big to do that? That is how they are in our county, maybe the state (Oklahoma).
