I got bored and decided to paint a reel. Didn't come out as good as I wanted but I'm also impatient and didn't let coats dry correctly . I didn't have the super fine grit sand paler I wanted. Left the center because I didn't wanna try and put it back together Haha! Anyways I'm sure you crafty guys could do a way better job. I just used spray cans and 4 coats of clear.

D, does look good.

What did you do prior to painting and what kind of paint, and any clear coat?

I like the pattern though, makes a simple mettle look pretty sharp.

Painting prep was simple wet sand with fine grit sand paper wash with dawn to remove any oil and hands also. Then I removed the button on side plate and taped up the hole and used a razor to make sure the edge was fine. I did the same to the other side taped around the knob control and where the bearing go in the handle be sure to remove bearing of course. 1 coat of primer dry then 3 coats of black and 4 coats of clear for the shine. All was done with spray paint. I'm sure automotive clear would be better also 15 minutes dry time is in perfect conditions I would wait about an hour to handle. I found if you're impatient like I am and smudge it that a wet magic eraser smoother it out.

If I wanted to paint the side covers on my Abu Garcia 4600 what would I have to do?

I think the sides are aluminum.

Get some wet sand paper, scuff it up some, the real fine grit stuff. Let it dry. Then seal it with a coat of water tight acryalic glue... Then, and this is key, go throw the dam thing in the nearest lake or pond, a creek will do, and get a Revo.

Questions?

Those of you who are thinking about painting your tackle should be sure to use automotive paint and clear coat. Regular spray paint will scuff right away. I painted some Abu red reels and had to redo them. Even automotive paint will scuff off unless it is baked well.

Why? When your revo finally breaks, that 4600 is just hitting its prime.

Questions?

Yea I have one, what do you do when the clutch cam of your Revo breaks? Or when the line pawl seizes? How about you buy a Shimano? Ban-D that looks really slick. It really reminds me of a Daiwa. Great job!
Oh, and for reference, I bet my 11 year old Chronarch A series will outcast, feel smoother, the drag is smoother, and will overall outperform your brand new Revos. The man is proud of his paint job, stop with the b.s. reel comparisons and enjoy what the man has to show, or don't post.

Great input 210. The reel looks great and Ban-D should be proud. I hope my comment about the automotive paint was not taken as a criticism. If so, I apologize. I was just trying to be helpful.

I look at things this way.. I've had way more positive comments to the 1-2 negative comments. This was something done out of boredome on a rainy day I think it looks better. Espically than the plain silver on the yellow. Thanks guys!
