So I want to install an anchor trolley on my new Coosa. I will use one of the existing pad eyes on the rear of the boat but I will need to install a new one near the front....

My question is what do I use to fasten that and other things in the future to the kayak. I've seen a guy use a rivet gun on the internet but I've also seen bolt and nut videos.

I need some ideas....and I'm a little nervous about putting a hole in my kayak. eek

Don't be nervous about putting a hole in your kayak. First thing you do is make sure you have it where you want it. I usually get one of my kids to hold the pad-eye in place and string up the trolley and see how it functions. I make any adjustments and then I mark the spot. Pre-drill your holes so that the rivit fits exactly. Put a little goop in the hole. Punch your rivit in. Put a little more goop on top.

Nothing to be scared of.

Everytime I see people saying they are scared to put a hole in thier kayak I think of opening a kayak rigging business. But then I realize I am currently working 6 days a week, 80 hours plus.

Attach a carabiner to your front handle. Run your trolly cord through the carbiner and be done with it. Simple, Faster n more effective IMO.

X2 I have a two anchor system and use the front and back handles with a carabiner. Works like a charm.

I've done that many times, but I don't like the play in the trolley line with that method. personal preferance. It does work just dandy though.

Here's how I did it, same for the front as rear. On the handle in the middle, I stuck a caribeaner, on the front and rear handles I put a stainless shackle, forget what size but they aren't huge. Then I made a loop tight enough to pull the carabeaner to one side of the handle and another to the other end of the boat tight enough to pull back. Then I used a larks head to attach the clips at the place where I tied the ends of the rope together so it'd slide without any knots. All those pulleys are nice but I don't need it. I can also use the rope to the front handle to pull myself up to stand, and if I want I can pull it all off in about 2 min. My 2 cents.

The first hole is the hardest. After that you'll be drilling like there is no tomorrow. I bolt them on using plenty of marine goop where I can but I use rivets if I cant get to the inside. For my anchor trolley, I used a yak gear kit from academy that I got for $15. I use about 40 ft of nylon rope and use a drag chain a lot more than my anchor. I have an extra clip I can hook on a 2 lbs anchor if I really need it. The drag chain idea is a great one IMO. I carry a 24 incher and a 16 incher. Usually when I get set up on the anchor I realize I wish the wind was pushing me down the bank a little. But the anchor can come in handy from time to time. Best to have both options. Just my $0.02
