Fishing has been unseasonably good the last 3 weeks. Last year in January I couldn't buy a fish and this year it has been more like fall fishing all winter long (so far)
Last 5 trips I've found birds working hard and been catching lots of fish chunking sassy Shad in the top 10 feet of the water column. That banana color from moe's has been my best bait this month.
Today I didn't fish but sat and watched birds just going crazy just 50 yards off the bank.

All my fishing this month has still been in the mid lake area in deep water. 50-60 feet been finding just huge schools of fish everyday..from the north island all the way to table top. Most days I'm not going past the N.island...
If ya don't see birds working watch your graph in deep water..mark a few fish and a little bait and stop and fish. Once I find this usually in 15 minutes the fish will begin to pile up on me..
Seems like first the smaller fish come. Then the bigger ones get there..
I haven't got any double digit fish in two weeks but lots of 3-7 lbrs.
Don't look for hugs schools on your graph.. Just a few with some bait in the area and I promise they will pile up on ya..

My lure trips have been producing a few less fish each day and really not much difference in size either..15-25 fish per day avg.

Bait trips have been producing 30-50 fish per day which is very unusual this time of year...water temps have warmed back up into the mid 50's. Fish are very active!!
If the water temps stay in the 50' s this oughta continue..keep ya fingers crossed!!

I usually don't like fishing much this time of year but right now it's still a lot of fun..
From now until the last day in feb I am running a special rate ..my minimum rate for two people is $350. I'll do up to 4 people for that price..plus some possible discount cabin rates during the week

Btw..those of you wanting to come fish on your own and catch Shad...it's still very easy just before daylight in most marinas under the lights..on the days I'm catching bait I can get 300-400 nice 4 inch thread fins in about 15 minutes..
Go get ya some!!
Btw...this is another pre vacation report..leaving Sunday for 8 days in Cabo !!! Wohoooo.

Very good again yesterday..based on Nitros post I decided to look in big mineral..well guess what ? NItro was right on..birds working just off the point from the cabins which is probably where he saw them from smile
All our fish yesterday came on the banana colored sassy shad from moe's tackle...I'm really liking that color right now.

Only 3 days till Cabo..I'll get some pics....fishing report in cabo today was tuna busting top all around the boat.. But only 90 lbrs were caught....I can't wait smile

Way too cold for me to fish today. Rescheduled for another day. High of 34 with 25 mph winds today that felt like cold stainless steel cutting thru my body...
Did I mention cold..
But as I looked out over the water today hout 10 am I saw tons birds working hard out in the river channel...usually that would make me wanna be out fishing..but NOT today smile

You can hike thru Corp land into big mineral..they come out directly to the east of walnut creek..but its about a mile hike

But really they are a half mile outside of mill creek marina.
On mill creek road just before you get to the marina....

88 hidden acres trail. If ya wanna look it up on map quest
