I have now purchased 2 different Berkeley line winding stations and the plastic spring knobs break within months of buying. What do you guys use to help run line, to keep the spool stationary and with tension?

I use the Plano line holders. I drill holes in the bottom and move the rubber gromits into those holes. With five spooles of line in, it has enough weight to hold the tension you are looking for.

I place a pencil or stick under my knees with the spool attached. I squees my knees together for tension. This is my method if I am alone.

I use a screwdriver and a vice. put the spool of line on the screwdriver and put it in the vice and put it on so it has tension on it. Really easy to do.

Thumb and middle finger of my left hand, wet the tips of the fingers and good to go. Fast and easy. Ofcourse you goto have large enough hands to do it. Hold the rod between my knees and crank away. Wet fingers help with the friction heat!
Ofcourse I am talking about spooling line into a fishing reel..

I use thumb and pointer then hold the rod with the other fingers.

Berkeley spooling station. Usually it lasts for 3 or 4 years. I don't overtighten the plastic spring knobs just keep my free hand on the spool.

Buy line in bulk on the big spools and lay it on the carpet of your boat, the big spools spin easily. Use your fingers in front of the reel for tension.
For removing old line, an empty toilet paper roll on the chuck of a cordless drill makes fast work of it.
You don't need a spooling station, just another thing to take up space.

Wow you guys are technical about respooling. Sit the spool on the carpet put your rod tip beside the spool so when you reel the spool spins not where it coils off the top. Make sure the label is face up and keep tension with your fingers as it goes in the reel.

I just leave it in the box and use the slot on the side of the box to run my line through. Very easy to do.

If it's only a couple reels, I use nothing. If I have a bunch to do I use the "Cyclone" from www.trianglesport.com
