Hey guys, i just moved to the Fort Worth area from Katy, texas. I was wondering if you could give me some good bank fishing spots in the Weatherford area? I have 3 young boys and do mostly catch and release. I have a jon boat too but it isnt registered so i use it on private ponds. i appreciate any help. God Bless

Lake worth isn't too far for you. Good lake, its got some bank access.

+1 on Worth. Eagle Mountain Is good for cats from what I hear, too. Haven't fished it yet tho.

Eagle Mountain is very limited for bank access. Mineral Wells state park is just west of Weatherford on 180. It's a good lake to take kids to. Sunshine lake at Cartwright park off of 920 in Weatherford is also an option. I wouldn't advise you trying Lake Worth with your kids to start. Lots of access but lots of sketchy stuff going on around there too.

Welcome to the TFF!

+1 on what Deerstrangler said. Lake Worth isn't the safety place for kids or fishing alone if you are banking it. I've caught a ton of cats off the Weatherford barge, that's where I take my nephews and nieces fishing most of the time. Get out on the backside and throw a couple lines baited with shrimp or chicken liver into the channel. Wait on the cats to bite, sometimes you don't wait long at all, and have the kiddos catch perch to pass the time and keep them entertained. It's a great place to take kids. You can also toss out a perch or two for you to have fun. I've caught flatties up to 40 lbs throwing towards the dock with the big slide and bird feeder. Just talking about it makes me wanna fish it again, may surprise the kiddos and take them out there this week

It's also a really good crappie spot that should be turning on right about now

I live in Weatherford and Squaw Creek is your best bet for catching fish with your kids. I haven't really fished weatherford, everyone seems to talk about Crappie and Bass from there so if you here something let me know.
And Sunshine lake doesn't have mush for size. I have caught a lot of smaller fish there but nothing worth keeping.

If you hear anything about the Weatherford area let me know!

Perfect lake for you guys and close to Weatherford is Mineral Wells State Park. Small impoundment with fishing piers and easy to launch boats. They also rent Yaks and Canoes. Good Luck welcome And they sell bait out of a vending machine !!

Not sure if you like crappie and white bass but northside marina at lake Bridgeport is a great place to fish with the kids and the spring white bass and hybrid up there are outstanding out on Bridgeport. Good luck.
