Im headed down the end of the month and I have a couple of heavy action rigs with 17and 20lb fluorocarbon. What else should take? Should I pack a deep cranking stick? I usually go with 12lb flouro w my cranking rod but I'm a bit skeered....

I don't get the whole fluorocarbon thing on lakes where the water is stained. Way more expensive. 20# Big Game. Change it daily.

That really wasn't my question. How should I rig up for a weekend on Falcon?

But thanks for your opinion on flouro....

Get rid of the 17#. Get rid of the rods that don't say heavy on them. 20# is the minimum, with 25# being better. You can crank with 12# on spots that are only rocks.

I would go heavier than 12 lb for cranking. I used 17 lb Suffix Deep Cranking Line when I go to Falcon. Some guys use 30 lb braid. Good Luck and I hope you catch a Biggun!!

i am in the minority, but the first rods in my hand have braid. The others have 25 lb flouro.

Got 3 deep crank outfits:

40 lb powerpro slick
17 lb deep cranking suffix (mono)
15 lb flouro

1 oz football jigs

If you come to falcon you owe it to yourself to ck out this site

http://www.tlcbaits.com/

They specialize in big Falcon fish bait. Drop me a line and I'll tell ya exactly which ones to load up on.

I went last february and listened to everyone, by the end of day 1 I was back to my 15lb and 20 lb Invisx with my regular ole rods I use at Rayburn every day. I only broke off one time and my big fish of the trip came out of the middle of a tree and was 9lbs 9oz. Dont change your equipment too much so that it is not comfortable. Also dont think you have to use all the Giant baits like some say. Most of my fish came on 5 inch senkos, regular brush hogs and the smaller yum money minnows. we averaged aroun 40 fish a day over 5lbs for 3 straight days, even had Trey Kistler and his guide follow us to our honey hole the last day we were there as they were not catching them so we told them we could help them out.

Let the fish tell you what you need. Fish what you are comfortable fishing. FZ1 would start out with the 17,20,12 fluro. You could buy additional line,in Zapata,if needed.

bd,

We have been killing them on big cranks. I too like 12lb test most of the time for my big cranks. When we are fishing deeper down there, I would use the 12 to get the desired depth. I caught a 10.1 Tuesday on 12lb floro down there, but was in open water. Most of the time down there we were bouncing it off bushes and trees and dragging bottom with them. Then we were using 20lb test, and glad to have it.

Is the water down their clear enough to even bother throwing floro on my t-rigs and jigs? Or is 50-65lb power pro just as good

Skeet my first rod that I pick up generally has braid on it. MANY people dont like braid at all and use 25 pound flouro. I use both, but certainly prefer the braid. One of the best Falcon sticks alive believes it isnt about water clarity, but more about the fish feeling the braid and heavy flouro in their mouth and spitting the lure instantly. He uses 17 lb flouro. I tried and tried more than once and I was not successful landing those elite level fish using 17 lb flouro.
