I was on Benbrook at the crack of 9:30 this morning. Rather than blowing out of the north as advertised, the wind was howling more out of the west northwest, and I really couldn't fish any of my few winter spots well at all.
By noon, I had only caught one tiny crappie. I wasn't in any hurry to get home this afternoon, but had had all the Benbrook fun I could stand for one day, so I loaded up and headed to another lake that's also close to home, Pat Cleburne.
I had never been to Pat Cleburne before, so I spent a bunch of time exploring and moving too fast to catch much. I finally slowed down enough to catch a half dozen nice fish and several smaller ones. Best bait was a 2 inch red-chartreuse tube jig, fished 8 to 10 feet deep in brush.
I had no idea that little lake was so popular.
