Any idea how long you can keep em alive without an aerator. Wouldn't mind ordering some if I could keep em alive in a big wash tub in the garage.

if u change the water daily 7-10 days easy with no airator - I've kept a dozen alive in a 5 gallon bucket for 7 days changing water daily......... airators aren't very expensive but water still needs to be changed or filtered. ......I took 6 out of bucket and put in a Walmart sack to make the mountain hike at Lake Worth and four hrs later 2 were still alive!! You can buy them at Olsens -when they have them - for $8.50 dozen or mail order like Clifton Did but not sure the cost..... I'm thinking of setting up a tank in garage with Aqaurium filter and aerator and keeping some....... http://www.blacksalty.com/ ...... You gotta call.....no prices on website......

Maybe a dumb queststion. After a bit of research, I found black salties are genetically engineered gold fish. I know goldfish are fairly popular as flatty bait. How would regular goldfish do as cutbait? Cheaper than black salties, but I don't if they will work as well.

Just to clear it up I am Clifton my dad is Chris. I advertise our business with his number because if you know me then you know how often I answer my phone, or how much I enjoy talking on it I truely don't like talking on the phone, I'm weird like that I'll have to see how much the salties are. I really like the extra large ones, they have a lot of blood. Caribou- They are very easy to keep alive, when I go fishing I'll throw a bunch in a gallon zip lock bag with water and I'll transfer them to a bucket when I hike to my spot. Never had any die and I've left them in it for a half day and more no airator

Ok. Hadn't ever priced goldfish. I just assumed they would be cheaper since they weren't being marketed to fishermen(which usually makes stuff more expensive. I may have to get me some of these suckers.

The XL ones are 8-10 inches but alot thicker and wider than a gizzard shad of the same length

I ordered some of the black salty's about 2 months ago. They are a good back up bait when you can't get shad. They are nice and bloody and have a tough skin kind of like a carp or buff. I ordered some of the XL ones you get like 40 or 50 but cost like 80 bucks shipped. I have had them in a 55 gallon drum with a aerator that plugs into a 110 outlet on my back porch for two months now. I just change the water out once a week and give them a little goldfish food every day and they are still okay. I only use them when I can't catch shad but they do work. I have had them on ice for 6 or 8 hours and you can put them back in your baittank and they'll be ok, they are a hardy little fish and even survive in saltwater.
