You should be a hand model.

I just got one as well, I really like the Johnny Morris, I think have 4 of them now.

Guys,

I too received my 'new' Carbonlite reel yesterday in the mail and here's why I am UNimpressed (other than the stylish look):

1. The overall build quality is CHEAPO
2. I broke a plastic piece inside while trying to open the side plate.
3. The knobs are very cheap feeling and not as grippy as most other reels.
4. When reeling it does not feel sturdy and although apparently 14 lb. drag and 9+1 bearings, I don't 'believe' in it.

With all this said, I decided to set up an exchange with BPS over the phone today for just another one of my Pro Qualifiers (which I have 10 of) and never had an issue with quality, reliability, etc.

All in all, this CARBONLITE line is mostly junk, here's why I say that. The Carbonlite MICRO Guide rods break at the tip, halfway down the blank and almost all of them, the guides bend or split inside. They actually pulled them off of online inventory for over a month (my thinking is to try to improve them). I recently received a new CL micro guide replacement for the third one that broke, and it does appears to have better aligned guides. However, they are still NOT Fuji and scream CHEAPO!

I watch Bassmasters and Bass Pro all the time on TV and I notice Edwin Evers only still uses the Pro Qualifier rod and reel (Sturdy as all heck, maybe a little heavier, but not much). I saw Stacey King and a few guys TRY the carbonlite and it appears they only use the regular guide and NOT the micro guide. I too am going down that path after losing my first potential DD (guessed at 10.5-11) this past spring because the guide split inside and cut the braid!

If you have any questions about Carbonlite, Pro Qualifier, Johnny Morris Signature Series II lineup such as rods, reels, feel free to ask or PM me as I feel I'm well versed in this subject considering I own over 16 'setups' between baitcasting and spinning combos all which are Pro Q, Johnny Morris SS II or Carbonlite (with the Pro Q reel for baitcasters) and the Pflueger Supreme for my spinning rods.

IF You guys test out the CL reel for a couple days and it turns out to work better than the picture I am painting, please weigh b back in and let me know, only after you 'field test' it a few outings. My first take was it broke easily and feels cheap so i am not taking the chance and sticking with a proven tool. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!.

I recently returned a carbonlite rod due to the fact that one of the guides got broke, not sure how. When I was exchanging it I saw they had the carbonlite rod and reel combo's for $199. Just the rod I was exchanging was $119 so asked the manager if I could pay the difference and get the combo. He said no problem, so it was like I got the reel for $80. I also bought the new exo rod and reel and a revo premier with a ducket rod the same week. Honestly after a couple outings, out of those three new combos I bought I like the carbonlite the best. And, it was less than 1/2 the price of the other two. We will see how it holds up but if nothing changes I will be buying several more of the combos.

The build quality is the same as other BPS reels...they just used a slotted gear for the middle metal washer (just like the Revo Premier has), duralumin drive shaft that's likely ported (just like the quantum smoke/exo has), and a carbon fiber handle with foam knobs (like a lot of reels now have). These "sacrafices" don't affect anything of the reel's overall durability unless you count user error (as the threads on the driveshaft are easier to mangle than brass).

Also, that new reel has more extreme porting on the spool (again, doesn't affect squat durability wise).

Light reels just feel cheap/not sturdy when you first give them a go.

Those reels are just redone reels from the very same factory that makes all pure fishing/bps reels (and lews).

I'm actually really excited to try this reel. I think it's cool that both elements of the DBS are externally adjustable like the very underrated Browning lineup.

Johnny is very pleased you bought that reel,

but seriously thinks you need to buy another.

The Pro Qualifier line is awesome the rods are great and the reels are sweet and cast a mile also and mostly they last or atleast the ones I have do. I have a JM reel and hate it big bulky heavy I will take a Pro Qualifier anyday over a JM.

I got 2 carbon blacks last year and have been very happy with them. I took one on a saltwater trip to Sabine Lake. We tore up the Reds and Specks and it held up just fine.
