I have been using 18# Fluro, anyone using braid?? Is there a preference. Also, what plastic is preferred?? I generally use a Hags Tornado in the F6.5, Zoom Lizard or Brush Hog.

You could do braid to a floro leader.

I use 65lb power pro braid as a main line with a fluoro or mono leader.

I used to use braid. Now I use Floro. I was told that braid can make too much noise and spook the fish. Don"t know if that is an issue or not, but I did switch.
I like the Manns Jelly worm 8 inch for my C-Rig.

50# Power Pro with a 15-20 lb Fluoro leader. I use a swivel. I will also use straight 20lb fluorocarbon.

Always used 20 lb mono main line and 12-15 lb mono leader. Plan on switching main line to braid this year. I had thought about using fluoro as the leader since it's less visible but was concerned the fluoro would cause the bait to sink faster and stay on bottom more. Granted, not many baits are going to truly float with mono leader either but it would sink slower than with fluoro. Thoughts?

Just switched to braid w/ 20lb floro leader. It's taking a getting used to coming from copolmer. When you set the hook the rod stops and wants to fly out of my hands. The best part about it is I've eliminated so many break offs. Whats on your hands?????

The best part about it is I've eliminated so many break offs. Whats on your hands????? I've been using Spiderwire Stealth Braid to Mono leader for years. The slick coating on the Stealth doesn't "sing" when it goes through the eyes during a cast. Also, if you don't loosen the drag a little more then you will either break the leader or as said above- "the rod flys out of my hands". Remember with braid "something has got to give!" Braid is more sensitive on a C-rig bite so it helps us rookies feel the fish easier.

I use 65lb power pro braid as a main line with a fluoro or mono leader. ^

Braid makes a great main line since their is zero stretch. I go 50lb powerpro w a 15lb floro leader.

Had all braid---went to all fluorocarbon. Didn't like the stiffness of the fluoro but did like the transparency so now it back to 50 lb. braid with a 5-6' fluoro leader. Love this combination and tying with a double uni has held 100% of the time.

Tried the fluoro leader but did not like the know going through the guides on the rod. May not ever hurt anything but just did not like it. In some water conditions the fluoro may make a difference but I have not seen any indication of it in the lakes I usually fish.
No matter how invisible the line may be with fluoro, you still have a big hook sticking out for the fish to see and if it is a Texas rig, you have a big chunk of lead. Makes it really questionable to me how much difference the line makes.
Think you also have a lot of visibility with the Alabama Rig but most folks do not seem to think that is a problem.....

I use flourocarbon now simply because of the break offs of braid with flouro leaders. Back off the drag a good bit. I broke one off last time out that wasn't far from the boat, I just can't shake the monster hook-set.

+1 Braid does help you feel everything down there and you will catch fish with that set up but you will get less bites with braid even with a leader, but you have to choose the set up you like best. I miss the lack of stretch the braid has when using it as a main line.
Baits to use are endless. Any soft plastic. My favorites are Lake Fork Tackle ring frys, Zoom flukes, Zoom lizards 4,6 and 8 inch, Tornados, and rattlesnakes,

I don't know for sure. Many people speculate that the fish can see the braid but I use a 4-5ft leader on my c rig so seeing the line should not be a factor. Also think about this,,if a fish will bite an Alabama rig with wires holding the little swim baits it shouldn't care about braid.
I think it has more to do with sound of the braid in the water. As the braid rubs over stuff in the water it will make a constant sound and it also makes a constant sound when it is moving through your rod guides. For some reason, "at times" it matters to the fish. Other times they are very active and could care less if a bait is tied directly to braid. The noise will be less apparent on a C rig, Tx.rig, and a jig because you are moving the bait mostly with the rod and the line is moving less through the rod guides as you are fishing the bait compared to fishing a crank bait with braid.
Don't get me wrong, I used braid as a main line for over 20 years and I like the strength and sensitivity of it and the no stretch down to the leader, but you will "at times" get more bites not using the braid. If I can find a braid that is fairly quiet going through the rod guides I might switch back to braid as a main line. Suffix braid is pretty quiet. P-line braid sang like a little girl in a choir.
Guides will tell you the same thing cause they see their clients using braid vs those not using braid all the time and many times the one not using braid will get more bites. I don't know exactly why it bothers the fish, but some days it just does and only the fish know when those days are going to be.

I may try braid on my c rig next time. My buddy thinks i am crazy but i use 15 or 17 on main line and 20 onleader. The 20 seems to keep the bait up a little bit and fall slower. I have had a lot of luck doing this. Knock on wood havent had a problem breaking it off but that is a concern.

I used to use braid. Went back to big game because rocks kept fraying and cutting my line right around the weight. If you aren't around any rocks you can get away with it.
