you have an element going bad is the likely cause.
this is how to change them, if you have 2 do both at the same time.
hook a hose to the hose bib at the bottom, crack the water line at the top to allow air in the tank, if its corroded be careful.
unhook the breaker (pull breaker) first.
do not turn on electricity until ALL air is run out through a hot water faucet in the house.
you gotta crack the water line pretty good to allow enough air in too, oh and TURN OFF THE WATER. (had to toss that in).
TURN OFF ALL BREAKERS to the water heater or you risk DEATH.
to drain crack the water line at the top, not the pressure relief valve, then open the hose bib (have a hose hooked up and run outside).
install element then reverse the directions, fill with water before turning on breakers or you could burn out the element you just installed.
