I'm thinking of getting the Shimano core reel with the pitching bar.....worth the price? My other choice is another Lews tourney speed spool, which is much less
Opinions and reviews please?

I've had my Core for 2 yrs now, and I love it. It is pricey, but I wanted to try one strictly for pitching, and coupled with my Loomis Xhvy BCR855 it's my favorite for pitching jigs. I haven't tried the Lews Tourney yet, but there have been lots of good things on here about them.

I just bought my 2nd core. I'm not sure why I needed the second one except for that the 1st one was so awesome I had to have another one. I have 3 chronarch mg50's and the core makes those feel like zebcos.
you get what you pay for.

No Pitchin' Bar for FZ1. Pitchin' bar adds weight and complexity. Pick them both up in your hand and see which Reel feels best. Check out the Steez for medium to small hands.

[quote=JustWingem]I have 4 of them. Great reels only had an issue with one. It was one of the early models the line would get in between the spool and frame. Replaced the spool under warranty, no more issues. [/quote I thought I had the same problem, found out I just needed to take the side plate off and tighten the spool nut.... They are great reels. They are light and you can cast them a mile.

I got both of mine off of Ebay and paid about $230 for each. Both are like new out of the box. Well worth it for me as much as I fish.

Isnt just about everything? it's all relative. Is spending as much as 3 tanks of gas too expensive for a reel you may use for 10+ years of fishing?

I think the Core is the best reel ever made by Shimano including the Calais. I'm thinking about getting me another one myself.

Great reels, just wish they made them in a 6.3:1 I just bought my 2nd core. I'm not sure why I needed the second one except for that the 1st one was so awesome I had to have another one. I have 3 chronarch mg50's and the core makes those feel like zebcos.
you get what you pay for. Want to sell any of those 50mg's? I could use another one!

I went to bps yesterday and thought I knew what I wanted....headed for a shimano core....walked down the reel bar and there she was, teasing me, tempting me. I couldn't help myself! I bought the new revo mgx! This little baby is lighter then the box it's in! Going to match it with a kistler lta 7ft hvy for jig fishing!

I brought my own rods (Curados on Falcon Lowriders) and he handed me a Shimano rod that had a Core on it since it was already rigged. I fished it all day not knowning anything thing about the price. I thought it was a pretty nice reel one that I would like to have. In my mind I figured it was just above the new Curados I had. Figured it would be in $220 to $250 neighborhood. At $350 it was overpriced to me.

I usually have 7 rods rigged up ready to go on the boat. I'll let you know if I decide to let one go.

IMO, the Chronarch 50/51MG is a far superior reel to the Core. I've fished with both, but the Chronarch surpasses it when it comes to finesse (which is what they are designed for). They both have that distinct typical "hollow" magnesium feel to them, but it seems less prominent in the Chronarch as well. The ergonomics of the two seem almost similar, and both balance well on a 6'6"-7'0" medium rod. They need to release a new Chronarch MG with the new frames and price it at the original $249.99. Bet you Shimano's sales would skyrocket.

Got several of the Cores (at least 8) and think they are great reels. Got a couple or three of the Chronarch 50s and they are not nearly as good as the core. The Cores cast great, are extremely smooth, light and have plenty of muscle if you need to horse a big one out of the bushes.
Somewhat pricy but worth every penny to me.
