I'm 30 years old, and I'll admit I hate being alone. Overnight is not too bad, but my wife and 2.5yr old daughter left at 4am to go to Syracuse, NY till next Tuesday. Sure I like some peace and quiet, but I love my family. This will be the longest that my wife and I have been apart since her grandmother died. That was about two months into our relationship (we'll have been married 8 years in July and have been together for 12 years in Sept). We were also in college back then so I had plenty of other things going on all the time.

Having facetime on our iphones does help a lot. It's really nice to be able and see and interact with my daughter.

No thanks. I've been a few times and just don't see all the hype. $7/beers, nasty strippers, filthy people

I enjoy it for a while. I get a lot done without other people underfoot. Still,I do understand.

I like it sometimes. I'm not alone very often though, so I guess I might feel differently if it were a more regular occurrence.

Being alone and being comfortable with it are good things, Ratz. Embrace this time you have right now to learn something about yourself. It's Ok to miss them. It's also important for one to be comfy with one's self too. It also makes you appreciate them even more.

I like it occasionally for a week or so ... I'm able to sort my mind out, accomplish things that I can't when the fam is all around. I get half days frequently but several days in a row is a cleansing of my mind!

I like being alone

I have been divorced for 21 years. I got used to being alone, well some things I miss.

I used to really enjoy being alone. Now I don't mind it for a day or so, but I really miss my 21-month old daughter bad if I go very long without seeing her.

I had to travel a bunch this past year working on a new project, and it was always bad being gone. I usually left on Monday and came home Friday. The worst part is that you don't get paid any extra, and when you get home on the weekend, fishing/golfing is obviously out of the question because I hadn't seen my family all week. I enjoy my job, but I really didn't like all the traveling. I would've loved it before my daughter came along. Unfortunately, the travel began right after she was born. I feel your pain man!

Oh man. I love my family too but I love my alone time. I believe we all need it. Goos for the soul to get that time to ourselves. In fact I could use some right now.

Same here. I have not been to one in YEARS. There is something unappealing about watching them have to spray and wipe down the pole after the other girl... what does she know we don't

I'm here without other people on most weekdays but we have four dogs and four cats. This whole animal farm thing started with a poor kitty who needed a home. Then another. Then an abused chihuahua that needed a place. Then little alley kitten who was lost and alone. Then another abused dog (why do people do that? ). Then my daughter moved in and got a pup. My son moved in this week and brought his dog. One of our cats lives outside. Lucky me.

When I'm here alone I have four dogs in a competition to show me who loves me most. I don't mind it at all.

I love my alone time too. I would get up an hour before everyone else was due to get up just to read and have my first cup of coffee in peace and quiet. I really did not like it if anyone would get up and disturb my quiet time. I felt it helped me be ready for whatever I would face during the day.

I love and adore being with my family and friends, but do not disturb my quiet time.

I'm the same way, TB, especially in the mornings. I really need at least an hour to myself to get ready for the day. I spent a lot of time during my undergrad waking up 30 minutes before class and having an awful morning dashing around, and the extra little bit of sleep isn't worth it. I leave the phone on vibrate until I'm ready to leave the house.

TexDawg, just make sure today is not an early release day for the kiddos.

Get into a project. Perhaps knit some mittens, or crochet an afgan. Maybe catch up on some quilting.

just kidding. couldn't resist. Know how you feel. I have 3 teens that drive me up a wall, but when they aren't there, I miss them tremendously.

There's a difference between not wanting to be alone and not wanting to be apart from a particular person. I think the original post is about the latter issue. It's more distance, rather than loneliness, that you don't like.

You might be right. Many nights the wife and I wont even see each other, but it's comforting knowing that she is in the bedroom watching tv.

I love my family but I am just fine being alone. My wife travels a lot for work and my kids are all a bit older now so I end up solo quite a bit these days. I love doing things alone especially fishing. There are some days where besides talking to my family I just enjoy not saying a word to anyone if I don't have to. I am not antisocial I just enjoy time spent alone. I can go 2-3 days at the lake without saying anything at all except phone calls with my family. I have to make lightning fast decisions at work fairly often that often have a serious outcome for the people I come across not to mention that I tend to always have 2-3 projects or part time jobs on my days off that its just nice to let my mind rest. Sometime I have to check out for a day or two and recharge.

I thoroughly enjoy my time alone. I office out of my home and boat ramp is 2.5mi away. I can get so excited knowing I only have a light workload day. Take the boy to school, hook up, and go to the lake without a care in the world. No matter what the weather is outside, this is as peaceful and close to heaven that I've experienced. 51 years old and still enjoy going as a "kid in a candy store".

Don't get me wrong. I love people, too......when they're not around!
