Supposed to be going down to Falcon next week and wouldnt you know it 60% chance of rain predicted for every day we are gonna be down there. Whats the best most affordable rain gear out there? My friend has bought Frogg Toggs before but still got soaked because he said they dont fit very good. We looked around at Cabelas and everything we saw that we liked was $100+ which is out of our budget. Thanks for the help.

If you want good raingear, you will need to spend more than $100.

The closest I have seen to $100 is the H2O gear at Academy. It think it runs $150 for the bibs and parka together.

Best gear for the price new. Had mine for a couple of years and it does the job.

I've got it too, no problems with it. I was out last Thursday when it was raining pretty hard and ran end to end of the lake several times and was dry as I could be and warm.

Ill have to check out the H2O stuff this weekend. Just really didnt budget to be spending $150+ on rain gear :-/
That I will only be using for MAYBE 3 days.

You don't ever fish in the rain? Hunt in the rain? Work in the rain? Camp in the rain?

If its only 3 days you'll be wearing them get some cheap gear from Wal-mart. It serves its purpose . It's so cheap you could by 3-4 pair in case a pair rips. Just an idea I do not think its the best lol.

I have the BPS 100mph gear bibs and parka. Love them. I also have the H2o and for the money they are impressive. If I have to get another set it will be the H2o.

It really comes down to just how comfortable do you want to be out in a heavy rain storm. Gor-Tex is out of my price range, but Cabela's Dry-Plus works just fine. But you will still need to pay over $100. Gor-Tex seems better and you have to pay extra for that.

In the winter months when the weather is nasty my full Drake waterfowl gear works great! Didnt spend $500 on it for nothing. in the warmer months i havnt looked into it too much but ive been eyeing the h20 gear for a while.

Good idea!. Most on here spend lots and get cold weather rain gear. Down there it may not be cold so just a Walmart rain suit or something like that might be just what you want. I have a cold weather set but I keep an inexpensive rain suit in my boat all the time. Found this at Fisherman's Outfitter. If you can take the bright orange and want to get a set for $100 here ya go and I bet it will keep you dry!

I keep some Wal-Mart suits at deer camp and in the boat. Funny thing about $500 worth of Gore Tex, it doesn't do any good if you left it at home. Cheap suits have saved a trip once or twice for us.

I use this for warm weather raingear. Well worth the $250 for the pants and jacket.

Windproof, breathable, waterproof.

Ole Roland Martin used to swear by his Frogg Togg's but the other day he had on the ones from Bass Pro Shops, I guess they gave him a better deal!

if you really want a cheap suit...go to big lots and buy a coleman rain suit. it will run you about $12 and you will probably only get one use out of it before the crotch rips out...but its super cheap. i have a brand new sitting in my trunk for a rainy day. It wont keep you very warm, but it should keep you dry for a little while at least.

I use frogg toggs and have not had an issue. I would go that route for 3 days in warm weather. If its warm, does it matter if you get a little wet?

Like someone else said...if you are only buying for this trip then go buy a pancho or some other type of rain jacket at Academy. They normally have some sets for around $50 total...they aren't pretty but should keep you dry enough to not be miserable...

I got real lucky a couple of years ago and got the rain suit in pic for $40 at a warehouse sale conducted by Walls. They had the sale this time of year, so you might want to give them a call. The King Salmon run was pretty good in Petersburg Alaska that June also.

Call me cheap but I bought a 20$ rain top at academy. I already had some bottoms I use for hunting. Like some said above I doubt it keeps me warm but that's what jackets and extra layers are for. I probably will never use them again so it seemed like a great 1 time use type a deal. If I was serious about it and knew I would be in the rain alot I would buy the BPS 100mph stuff.

Hmm all good info here. I think I will go either the frogg toggs route (but buy a bigger size then normal) My friend that bought them and used them in heavy rain said they worked ok until you bent over etc/ and suggested maybe buying a larger size would work better. Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Definitely going the cheapest route I can for now. Just need something to get me by.
