I'm somewhat new here, but not new to chasing sandies in Rowlett Creek or Benbrook Lake. I've never had any luck on Denton Creek. Any suggestions on a few places to try this year?

Also, are there any sandies BELOW lake Grapevine? That creek that runs through the golf course looks very enticing.

I would bet them sandies are thick back there right now with 1000 cfs being released. Can you even fish behind the dam?

@MikeG02, I don't know how you could fish below the damn. The Corps has it blocked off directly below the damn and the golf course posts it as private property. That same creek crosses under 2499 and has some paths around the sides. I may give that a shot. Otherwise, from the comments posted, I may have to head up to the waters that feed Lake Lewisville. Those creeks are usually just as much of a rodeo as Rowlett Creek.

That was pretty old. The creek was cleared by the spawn, like in Early march or so. I have been fishing near the hole after that with limits all the time. I may hit the hole again this weekend for the first time of this season weather permits.

There are 2 apartment complexes that have a walking trail you can access the creek that the spillway dumps into. Cross Creek Apartments and Mustang Ridge. If you park at the Grapevine Mills Mall lot near the last gate at Cross Creek (east end) you can see the sidewalk turning at the end of the fence. Pull it up on Bing Maps and do the birds eye view of the area and you should be able to see a little of it before it disappears under the trees, then you can see the sidewalk again as you get closer to the creek. You can access a few areas of the creek. I only fished it a few times when I lived there, we always caught a few.

Denton Creek above Grapevine was chocolate muddy when I drove over it last weekend. If it clears a bit and the flow maintains, the sandies should be up past the 377 bridge soon. A bit more rain and it should be great. There wasn't much of a run last year due to low water conditions...they stayed nearer to the Lake.
