I have been thinking about this one.... I want to try catchin some rats from the barn and see how long they can hold their breath, Maybe even cut rat with dead red, cut mouse. I just saw a cow spleen on TV, I would like to try that... I have some old crabs in my freezer and I was wondering if I can put them in the blender with some cheese to make a sticky bait... I have caught catfish on crab, if you use the breast plate of the crab on a hook it never comes off... I remember catching a lot of fish on just one crab.

wow i never thought of using crab or rats. hmm well i think u could do the crab and cheese thing. may i suggest try tying some thread to the eye of the hook and then after u have put the bait on the hook rap the thread around the bait i believe that should help keep it on i know that it works with chicken liver.

I'm reminded of the old saying. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'll stick with shad.

hows about chicken liver marinated in blood and bacon grease what,ch yal think of that I would cook the chicken and bacon and eat it myself. Then go catch some shad and find a new fishing hole. It really is the best bait out there.

I was thinking if I get bored I might cut a toad in half and see if anything would bite, or even throw it our there live.
But, I am probably just going to stick with shad and perch for the time being.

What I have been having luck on is chicken liver, beef liver, and chicken gizzards/hearts cut in to bait sized chunks. Put it all, with the juces in a tupperware container and use of till I don't have any more. This last me about 2 to 3 weeks. But when I do catch fish, I bleed them out in to the container. Same thing with the hogs I get. From the hog ill use the brains and liver. I just keep adding to it. Yes it gets mast, but its effective. But I do most of my fishing in stocked ponds.

If you've never had luck with shad you're fishing in the wrong places/with wrong technique shad is what blues eat everyday. Live bluegill, carp ,buff for yellas. Everything else yall mentioned is channel cat baits, which ain't bad if that's what your targeting. For me I want the really big fish blues/yellas. You might get lucky and catch a big fish on baconliverrattoad meatloaf but don't hold your breath.

Not holding my breath, but maybe trying somethin new just to see what happens. I'm not expecting great results. Just gonna ry something different on a pole and see what happens.

There's certainly nothing wrong with that. But I don't get a lot of time to fish, and I'm going to do what I can to be as successful as I can.

The little lakes and ponds I fish only have channels in them. I'm not looking to catch a monster out of them ether. Cause the 5-6 lb fish I caught a coupple nights ago was considered to be a monster for the body of water I was fishing..

I have been wanting to use cow blood.Let it dry or coagulate in the sun, in pie tins then cut them in strips. But I read that you can not purchase cow blood.Health board won't let you.But I did read this recipe awhile back.

Gizzard shad works for me but not the smaller ones, all I catch is drum on small shad.
