Went to Bass Pro today to get some Crappie jig's and there are to much to choose from . I fish at Twok what would be the top 3 colors to use ? Do yall have every color in your tackel box ? How long do u try a color before changing to a new color ? How many color changes do u go threw before u decide the fish ain't biting ?
Diffent lakes like different baits/colors. I would think that most people on the forum have thousands of different jigs and colors. Ask around what other people are catching them on or if you are fishing in a marina/dock just watch who is catching fish and if you got it use it. I would normally use a color/jig that i have confidnece in for atleast 30 minutes or better. Depth and how clear the water you are fishing in also is a factor as is the sunlight and time of day. Confidence in your bait is what i think matters most.
by the way, I catch as many crappie on the starter or rooster tail jigs than I do on the premiere. also; you can fish with two jigs on one line about 2 feet apart, different colors, see what they bite on.
Start with some basics. Anything with chartreuse in it is a good start. A lot of folks swear by white also. Black / Chartreuse or any of the color combos Tony mentioned on Fork.
If they don't bite, try moving before sitting in one spot tying on 20 different colors. Find the right depth, brushpile, bridge piling or timber where they live. Work on location and finding the fish and then presentation. It will get you a lot further than trying a myriad of colors. Good fishing!
