I'm getting about 12 mpg normal driving and 11 when towing my boat. Thought about a programmer but just not sure! Thought id ask what your getting? And if a programmer works so much better why doesn't Ford put on at the factory?

I am sure you think you have stumbled upon the most intelligent forum known to man but alas I must inform you that we have no idea what you are talking about. Probably.

2003 4x4 crew cab long bad with a 6.0 I get 23 highway 16 town. Dad has a 2007 and he only get 15 highway. I installed an EGR bypass kit, aftermarket injectors and new oil pump. Might help you get better mpg.

Be very careful with a programmer...the early 05's had head gasket issues. The only programmer I would suggest you using (as would most people) is the SCT.

Put a Superchips + Deisel Kleen on my 2006 and went from 11cty/12hwy to about 12/15 average.
And its an emissions issue.

All the 6.slows have issues but it really isn't the head gaskets imo. The head gasket failures are related to the egr, egr cooler, oil cooler failures and the crappy coolant that Ford uses.

so which diesel is best in terms of MPG/reliability in yalls opinion, of the Ford Super duty's available engine configurations.

i have an 03 Excursion with the 6.0. It's been "bulletproofed".. no cat, flowmaster exhaust, updated head gaskets, EGR delete, and a Banks 6-Gun tuner. It gets 18 city, and 24 on the hwy. And runs like a scalded arse ape for its size! Run a bottle of fuel stabilizer/injector cleaner through it once a month to keep the injectors running clean. I just did the EGR delete last week, and it was a PIA!!! I am now running fuel cleaner and the injectors are starting to clean up and run good, along with my MPG increasing.

I don't necessarily agree with that. The early 05 - 03's were either good or junk. Late 05 - 07 were good. I would bet that 75+% of the head gasket issues were people running programmers. That is all the 6.0 issues. Having said that I am having an EGR delete done soon so which diesel is best in terms of MPG/reliability in yalls opinion, of the Ford Super duty's available engine configurations. Find a 7.3 with less than 250k on it OR a 06/07 6.0 OR the new 6.7.

yes... JUDD is right... I would steer clear of the 6.0 early models unless you like pulling turbo and intake off a PIA dirty diesel! there's a guy on YOUTUBE that can steer you towards "bulletproofing" your 6.0 . pretty good advice. I floored it last night and when I hit second the tires broke loose... felt very good, compared to the little nerd mobile I have been driving for awhile.. LOL!
