Hey guys, just wanted to see how many of you guys are thinking about waking up from hibernation?
How many of you guys are getting excited with these rains and warm spring-like weather?
I've got a little work left to do on my boat but not much. I only hit the river once last year so unfortunately my gear is in good shape and collecting dust. Hooks are still sharp and no stages missing. I did pick up a new dip net. I need to check my bait nets and go through my perch traps.
I fish the Brazos. It was nice to see it get a big ole flush last weekend. The fish should have gotten a good role of the dice as well.

Just wanna hear what ya'll are doing.

Are you trotlining/throwlining already? I'm just now getting my rifles cleaned up for the year and about to make the sausage that'll I'll be cooking on the river bank.....while my lines bump from the 8" perch hanging on the 9/0 hook!

sausage... blah! the proper river rat breakfast before going to check your line is leftover fried yella cat and eggs on toast.

China Springs....I been there, great community of fisherman, and they know how to fish. How's the spillway know on the Brazos? Can you still get down to fish it ?

The spillway is now fixed, there are no gates. The by-pass conduits are the same but the water is now shallow and full of rip-rap, steel and all kinds of things to hang you up or eat a cast net. They left all the rebar, concrete and debris when they took the old dam down. The big hole behind the spillway has been filled in most of the way. You can still catch a few fish there but it's nothing like it was. You can't drive in to get close for the short walk anymore. I have seen a few bank fishing but nothing like it used to be. I lost 2 cast nets and broke off about a dozen rigs...all in 1 day. Overall it's not very good.

bleh, i don't wanna eat pig lips and arseholes for breakfast. who said anything about cooking. leftover cat and boiled eggs on some toast is from the night before.
and beer is for quiting time, not breakfast. whisky is for breakfast. warms ya up and gets ya moving.

I have to agree on whiskey for breakfast.....but if I ate boiled eggs from the night before....nobody would be left standing up down wind from me!!!

I thought it was "Whiskey before breakfast" like the song....

Early one morning 'fore the sun could shine
I was walkin' d*wn the street, not feelin' so fine
I saw two old men with a bottle between' em
And this is the song that I heard them singin'

Lord protect us, Saints preserve us
We been drinkin' whiskey 'fore breakfast

If camp coffee wasn't already in the pot.....I would take a shot of whiskey if I had it. I'm usually the 1st up...so I put the pot on the coals and go run lines. Coffee and breakfast comes after I'm done....I so enjoy river fishing all night.

if coffee is already in the pot then I add the whisky to my coffee. unless it's good whisky. I don't mix good whisky with anything.

one other question to consider.....i have seen trotlines stretched tight and some that have a weight tied in the middle and have it sunk to the bottom. what are the advantages and disadvantages of each of these besides someone playin raccoon and raiding the line if it is stretched tight?

Mine are anchored at one end, weighted at the other and the weight is heavy enough to keep the line tight. I put it out at dusk and run it at dawn and take it up until dusk again. I don't leave lines out during the day. I've heard to many stories about kids drowning after being caught on a trot line. I would just as soon die as that be my trot line. So even though I don't put my lines out in... uh, very habitated areas, I don't leave them out but for one night at a time.
And I'm not worried about anybody stealing my catch or gear. Anybody who has an eye that could spot it wouldn't be the type to steal it anyway, if they did they must have been in a real bad way, and I hope God blesses them and soon.
