...I think??? Went to check on the water condition of the SSSSL last Friday. We unloaded and got ready to launch my canoe. I went to park my truck and locked it using the remote. I got into my canoe and then my buddy pushed us off. I fiddling with the battery to my trolling motor & finally got the TM going. As we headed up the creek, I felt like something was dangling out of my weat pants' pocket. I grabbed for it thinking it was my car keys, but it was the plastic tip on the seat strap. So then I started feeling/looking for my keys in every pocket I had and NOTHING! We banked the canoe and search for my keys and NOTHING again. Motored back to the launch site and searched every where. I even stripped down to my boxers and searched in the thigh high FREEZING water thinking my keys may have fell in while I was getting in the canoe or while fiddling with the battery. Needless to say I didn't do much fishing that day with me having to call someone to pick me up and I had to drive all the way to Coppell to get the spare keys from my wife at her work. Cost of Honda Ridgeline Truck key/remote replacement $120 and a additional cost to get it programmed to your truck from Honda dealer. My Acura TL keys were also on the key chain so I have to get replacements for the key & remote from an Acura dealer. I know that's gonna cost a pretty penny too

Ughh that sucks so bad Ren, hope you are not going to get sick on top of that due to being in the water. This just reminds me to make sure I put my keys in my Floatable Pelican Case before I ever put my kayak in the water. I am at the point where I worry about my phone/keys/camera and everything else I am going to make a laminated checklist to make sure I did it all right, got to keep the old man memory sharp or something.

If you tell me where you lost them, I could keep an eye out for them.

That's stinks.... Dude you need a extra set made. Yep, nice to know after the fact Ughh that sucks so bad Ren, hope you are not going to get sick on top of that due to being in the water. The odd thing is I don't remember putting my keys in my pockets after using the remote to lock my truck. It's like I blanked out from the time of locking my truck to getting into my canoe. It's the goblins of the ssssl. I would have to concur with you bro! Me and my buddy were questioning each other asking "shouldn't a key chain full of keys make some kinda noise falling out of a pocket?" We heard no such thing. Pretty weird. The SSSSL has also claimed my brand new not even a month old prescription glasses a couple months ago. My wife did not like that a bit.... Why I oughta.... @TexasSteve & FishR2099 - if you guys can fish on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, I'll take you guys there. Weekends are hard for me since it's FQT.

OUCH! I've had two close calls but so far nothing of value actually in the drink. Last trip to the coast, we were 200 yards down the ICW when I see my 400 dollar rx glasses on the hatch. No place good nearby to beach it so had to scoot up nice and gentle to grab them. Another time I had pull the dry box out to get my snack then forgot to put it away. Paddled for another two hours with it wide open resting on top of the yak behind my seat with the keys, wallet and phone ready to be claimed by Davey Jones. Doubt my luck will hold for a third time. With that kind of a donation to the gods, you should have some excellant fishing coming your way!

I'm going to take you up on that. Those are the only days I fish besides Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Simple and free solution. Just get an empty plastic mayonase or peanut butter jar (large one, but not huge like restaurant style), clean it out and you have a perfect water tight compartment.
I can store my keys, smokes, lighter, wallet, fishing license and phone in it. It is easy to screw the lid shut, it's clear so easy to find things when I need it and if it goes over board...it floats!!!
And one of the best things I ever bought...a Lifeproof case for my IPhone. It is totally water proof, I even do underwater pictures and video with it.

never keep your keys in your pocket while kayaking or canoeing! I keep mine in an otterbox.

Had to dig through grass under 3 foot of water for an hour one cold night on the Brazos to find my truck keys! Lesson learned. I no longer keep my keys in the same compartment as my extra gloves!

Great idea Where can I find one of those Lifeproof case? go get you one of those strong magnets from harbor frieght. tie it to a string and drag it around where ever you might have lost them. My pops suggested the same thing. I'm heading out tomorrow AM to check water clarity and do a little fishing. I'll stop by my pops and get his magnet and give it a try. I really cant say much though. Once I was just finished taking care of business and as I was standing up I flushed and the keys fell in to the cycle of no return.

Here is the link for the Lifeproof IPhone case. It works as advertised. I got mine at Best Buy. It's a little pricey, around $80.00 w/tax, but it was worth every penny for me. http://www.lifeproof.com/

If your like me (you know a fisherman who fishes out of a kayak ) you should easily get your money out of it. I'm actually suprised they don't advertise it to us yakers/fishermen more. I have had mine several months now and have dunked it underwater many times...no problems yet! Last weekend I was in my boat taking pictures. I was too lazy to put it back into my mayonase jar/dry comparment and I just laid it betwwen my legs. In the bottom of my boat was a nasy slury of mud and water. To even take a picture I had to rinse it off in the water that I was paddling in! I have had it very muddy and covered with worm guts and fish slime. Yet no damage what so ever! Like everything it has it's good and bad points... Good-It is a very slim, daily use case. It is even smaller than my son's Otterbox case. Slides easily into and out of your pocket. So the phone is always protected (even if it falls into a toilet!) It comes with an adapter so you can even use water proof ear buds. I don't have any, but if you want to do laps in a pool and listen to music...you literaly can! All the buttons and screen work as good as any other case I have seen. The sound and mic work just fine wih the case on. Bad-It doesn't float!! Still trying to figure out a solution to that (lanyard of some sort with a syrofoam float). The screen feels a little pillowy, but the speaker for the phone is a one way valve. If you gently squish the whole phone between your hand and leg, it gets a lot of the air out and feels beter. All and all I love the thing!! It is by far the best accesory someone like me could get for thier phone. I can't wait till the Summer. My boy loves to snorkle the Guadapule and Comal rivers and my phone will be filming what we see. Just one heads up, people tend to freak out when they see me clean it under a sink with hand soap. I get the usual..."What the HE!! are you doing?" Here is a quick video I just made to prove it's underwater capability. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuTsi8UFOio&context=C31a3564ADOEgsToPDskIGdaMFyIGsA7sQH5MHs9FP
