My wife has a 2007 Mazda 3 (small 4 door car) that will be paid off in June. We are going sell her car once it is paid off and we will be buying a mid size suv for more room and for our baby thats on the way. After 4.5 years driving this car, it only has 27k miles on it. We live very close to where she works. The tires on her car are shot and need new ones. I dont want to go buy some expensive tires on it since it will be someone elses car this summer. Looked at tirerack.com and found some Sumitomo brand tires. They have a few styles anywhere from $63 to $93 per tire. From now until we sell the car, she might put another 3000 mile on the car. Rating and reviews seem pretty good on the tires. Any experiences with these tires? Before looking online for tires, i was hoping to play about $100 per tire. I think the ones that came on the car are $130 each.

Go down to wal-mart costco and discout tire and look for a lower milleage rating cheap car tire. Car tires are very cheap compared to truck/suv tires.

Just like you can put very functional tires on a truck for alot less than what BFG's sell for you can do the same thing for a car.

I matching set of used tires would be a good option since you will be getting rid of it.

Check with some of the ma & pa tire shops around. They'll have used sets. That's all I bought in college. You can get 4 used tires for $200 or less usually, especially for a car (vs. a truck or SUV).

I had planned on going to walmart and checking out sams too this weekend. I guess discount tire doesnt show all there non-name brand cheaper tires online.

Thought about going to some self owned used tire places around town and getting four used ones but didnt know if her car tire would be a popular size to be found at those type of places. Its a low profile tire, P205/50/R17

If you're dumpin' the car, go to firestone and get some primewells. cheap 20k tires, like 220 a set installed for
205/60/16. couldn't beleive it, but a better deal than Discount by almost 30 bucks.

Well ended up buying the tires from NTB in burleson. I found some Sumitomo tires for $90 a tire on tirerack.com and called NTB to get a price on what it would cost me to have them mount and balance the tires. The guy from NTB said $11.07 per tire. Then he wanted to know why i was buying from tirerack.com, i told him that i couldnt find the tire i wanted that cheap anywhere else. He checked their price and told me that they carried the same tire for $140 a tire. He then preceeded to tell me that NTB would match compeditors tire prices. So instead of ordering the tires from tirerack.com and paying a $50 shipping cost, i just told him that i would come get the tires from them at the $90 per tire price. He said i just needed to bring proof of the price to them. That was Thursday.

Saturday rolls around, go to NTB and show the guy at the front the print off from tirerack.com and tell him what the guy two days ago told me on the phone. The dude at the counter looks at what the tire cost and immediately has to go get his manager with a mad look on his face, lol. Manager comes back, looks at my ad form tirerack.com, then looks back at computer and starts to look nervous, and tells me, "Man, thats a great price for those tires!" Manager approves deal and goes to the back, the original guy at the front (very unfriendly and butt hurt by this point) pulls up the order to fix me up and tells me that the price will be $575 for the whole ordeal. My wife and i think about it for a min in confusion because we had already figured a certain price up in our head ahead of time of what it would cost, as anyone would when spending around $500.

I ask him if he can explain each part of the ticket for me. Before he can even have the computer screen turned towards me he says, "About the only thing on here that we can change or take off is the $90 hazardous road side coverage!" I told him to take it off. Never did he ask me for this $90 "add on" sale and if i hadnt asked he would have never taken it off.

4 new tires put on her car for $481.
I really suprised myself. Usually when someone tries to scam or cheat me out of some money, or try to do me dirty, i usually make their next 15 minute social experience with me one that they would never want to relive. But i didnt.
It just amazed me that they would try and make up some of the difference that they were losing in the price of the tires by adding on a $90 add on that i didnt ask for. Its not like i went in there to haggle tire prices. The employee on the phone worked hard for my business by using the companies moto of matching compeditor prices.

I will go back to NTB for future business, because its close to where i live, and i will continue to get prices from tirerack.com and make them stand by their company policy.

Just my opinion but NTB went to carp when Sears bought them. They run those buy 2 get 2 tires free commercials just to suck people in. I called on that deal one time and they had a VERY LIMITED selection. Most all tires places will add on the road hazard until you tell them you do not want it. Road hazard is like extended warranty. They are money makers for the ones selling them.

I still cant see how they dont get a rash of sh&t from multiple customers for adding a $90 item on your bill that you didnt ask for.
