Anybody eat at the Lone Star Cafe in Hillsboro lately?

It was pretty good several years ago, with a HUGH Chicken Fried Steak.

But then it went downhill, and I haven't been back since. I'm hoping it's improved.

There once was 5 or 6 of them in and around Austin. I always liked 'em. Their CFS was very acceptable, gravy was outstanding. Plus their iced tea was excellent. I was sorry to see 'em close here, didn't know any were even still open.

Kinda like how Grandy's all of a sudden left the area, like overnight. Then heading up 35 W towards FW, what do we see but a Grandy's sign. Burleson, I think? Though it seems to be part of a gas station.. lol

Mid 80's til about '95 they were. I recall the ownership group went bankrupt for some reason. It's possible the one in Hillsboro isn't related, just able to pick up the name. I have fond memories from a couple of Lone Stars that were around here.

Grandy's in Burleson closed years ago. There is a Grandy's in Fort Worth off I-35W. Take the Seminary exit and it's right there behind the Taco Cabana. CFS at Grandy's is nasty.

+1 on that so-called CFS at Grandy's.. Nasty. The only thing I miss is their breakfast, especially their bisquits.

I coach in Hillsboro.

LSC Cafe does a great job everytime I have eaten there in the last six months.

They have a HUGE (and I do not use the word lightly) CFS (I am talking Mary's huge) but it is not on the menu. You have to ask for it is called "The Alamo".

Everyhthing I have tried on the menu is pretty good.

I recall their fried okra being exceptional as well. Plus cheap, ice cold beer, but I'm sure those days are long gone.. lol

The Grandys you saw was in Alvarado. Breakfast sucks, fried chicken is OK if you get it fresh.

Lone Star in Hillsboro has always been hit or miss with me. If you get good food, you have bad service. If you have good service, you get bad food. bang

I prefer to eat at El Con just across the street.
