He was coming in late in the evening when a squall was approaching and the wind got up. Waves got big and one picked him up and deposited him on a sandbar, swamped the engine and the boat sunk in about 2-3 minutes. I believe the top cap separated from the hull, as well.

Choke aint no joke, last year I saw a Ranger upside down in the back of a cove by Four Fingers that sank mid lake and floated to its burial! For a smallish lake the winds can make it fierce out there.

oh wow.....does anybody know his posting handle? would like to send him a message and ask him where he got his wrap and if it covered the gunnels completely. I had no idea that was the boat that got totaled on choke.

Man, wish I wouldn't have seen this post, just bought a Legend....LOL Legend is a good boat and the owner is a great guy. Randy has looked into this and I'm sure it has been taken care of all boats have the faults. I just can't find any in my Bass Cat LOL!! All joking aside I like the Legend boats.

Hey no doubt Randy checked into that, And on another note, I seen a Ranger swamped and beached on the dam at Ivie, so this can happen to any boat even a Basscat...hahaha....Love my Legend.

I just watched a video yesterday of a Ranger with severe collision impact damage being pulled from a lake. And no, it did not float while missing a huge chunk out of the cap and hull on one side. Actually, it was under water and upside down.
As for knocking holes in boats, I've done it twice to Skeeters, and I'm not proud of it. Both holes much larger than your fist. And they floated and fished, no problem.
Hit something hard enough to bust the cap loose from the hull and swamp the motor with a wave over the transom that instantly fills the boat, in severe water, and you're gonna sink. I don't care what brand it is.
Edited by fouzman (01/31/12 07:50 PM) Edit Reason: added swamped

This thread is funny. It is like a Cobalt owner and a Focus owner arguing over who's car is faster when they are both still slow I considered comparing them to rice burners, but figured that would be stooping too low.

I was wondering how the boat sank when he ran it up on a sand bar? He was coming in late in the evening when a squall was approaching and the wind got up. Waves got big and one picked him up and deposited him on a sandbar, swamped the engine and the boat sunk in about 2-3 minutes. I believe the top cap separated from the hull, as well.

I was wondering how the boat sank when he ran it up on a sand bar? Well it was pretty easy considering the water on each side of the sand bar was about 3' deep.
