Does anyone know the general height I should have on my motor/Jack plate? If I trim the motor very much at all, I seem to get chine walk around ~60mph. If I dont trim, of course I dont get much speed - I dont care to go 70+mph but want to make sure its setup properly.
Below is how I have it equipped:

2006 Triton TR20x
Motor = 2006 Mercury Optimax 225 HP Pro XS
Prop = Mercury Tempest Plus, 3 Blade, 26 Pitch
Jack Plate = 8" Pro Hi-Jacker/ with Hot Shot plate

4 batteries
1/2 tank gas
2 passsengers

you need to get the engine height correct.
then learn to handle that boat. it takes time and practice, but you'll get the hang of it.

once set up correctly you'll love that boat even more.

a fury may help you learn to handle it. so will a 4 blade trophy.

might wanna look for a good 26p trophy plus. they handle better and you can always use a spare. wink

then get your 26 tempest tuned and it'll run even better than before.

set the prop shaft height at 3" below pad to start and use a little less than full trim. start out at just over half trim and sneek up on 3/4 trim. that should be all you'll need till you get used to it.

much luck.
holler if i can help.

Thanks for the response fellas. There must be something set wrong on mine for sure because I don’t think I can even get to 1/4 trim before it starts getting squirrely. However I have heard that the Tritons tend to not need as much trim as some other boats.

Also when I trailer the boat I always drain the water out of the lower unit, but I can’t trim the motor down all the way or it hits the ground. Not sure if that is normal on this type of boat or not, my other boat and motor wasn’t nearly as big. However if I look at the jack plate it looks to me like it is almost all the way up.

I'll see if I can measure the height per the instructions on your website, but I have never done this before.

Steve, I also sent you an email!!!
