Trip and I did a little "Ditch Pitchin" this morning. Here's a great shot of him with his first true jig fish. He was using an 8' rod dropping the jig next to the bank. He felt the thump and jerked that fish all the way out of the water! We caught close to 30 in a little over an hour and kept 8 between 11 and 14 inches for dinner tonight. He'll turn 5 in March and that little fella never ceases to amaze me with his angling skills.
That is AWESOME!!! My little boy is 7, and just now really wanting to go fishing...I hope I can see a smile like that on him soon!!!

Thanks for the compliments guys! We just finished up eating fresh crappie for dinner AND desert. He caught a few with a jig and bobber as well, but he kept coming back to the long rod. When my wife got home this evening I told Trip to tell her about that first crappie on the long rod. He said, "Mommy, it felt like a trumpet on the end!" Somehow the word "thump" was replaced with "trumpet". I keep telling myself he's just 4, but he's a better angler than a lot of adult anglers I know.
When I take my 4yr old fishing, I'm more worried about him catching my eye. I can't keep him from swinging his pole around like a ninja. I don't think I could trust him with an 8 footer, that little 3 ft Lightning McQueen pole is dangerous enough!
